Movie Reviews of Kiss Them for Me

Movie Review: Kiss them off
Summary: 2 Stars

I make it a habit to check out Cary Grant movies but the more I see the lesser known movies, the more I realize that Grant was a single-facetted actor. Mind you, that cool, suave delivery of his is a real show-stopper but the two or three dramatic (not romantic) scenes in "Kiss them for Me" were embarassingly forced indignation. I admit that when I read the plot before I saw the movie, I couldn't envision Cary Grant as part of a threesome that puts on a wild four-day party. And he didn't fit the role as he sort of wandered in and out of the hijinks. It may have been good acting to appear oblivious of the ever-present Jayne Mansfield but the suave act was out of place with most of this script.

I'll still give Grant a chance to show his unique talent. However, the recent viewings of "Houseboat", "Walk, Don't Run", "Kiss Them for Me" and a couple other turkeys have shown me that his later years were spent making a lot of movies that he shouldn't have.

Movie Review: NOT TYPICAL
Summary: 2 Stars

Boring. This movie just drags on, and you tend to loose concentration in it. I'm sad to say, but I didn't even finish watching it. I've never done that with a Cary Grant movie before this one.
Cary Grant is probably one of my all-time favorite actors...but this movie is just BORING!

Movie Review: Jayne wanted to be in a Cary Grant movie at all cost, and the result is a DISASTER
Summary: 1 Stars

Poor Jayne, and the mistakes she made in her short film career.Read any biography about Jayne, and you will have to agree that she should have never accepted this role. Why did she do it? Her life-long competition with Marilyn is the only explanation.MM had been in a Cary Grant movie (Monkey Business),so Jayne just had to do the same.Interestingly enough,in the 2 Cary Grant biographies I read, the film is not even mentionned...Jayne fighting for the attention of Grant with the beautiful model turned actress,Suzy Parker, ends up looking like a female-impersonator,and not a good one.In 1957 Jayne was in a position where she could have refused that tacky role, but instead she sure is in this bomb.Cary Grant was obviouly in it for the money, and his 'I'm so cool,i can't believe it-kind of acting' just doesn't cut it this time.Jayne is the fifth wheel, and just looks like she doesn't belong-No chemistry whatsoever, and everyone in the film looks embarrassed for her.Even her clothes don't even have the feeling of a movie that is supposed to be set in the 1940's.You end up with the feeling that she is an unwelcomed guest on the film-set.
Get the DVD,but don't pay more than a buck for it !

Movie Review: Jaw-Droppingly Bad
Summary: 1 Stars

Among the worst movies I've ever seen. The plot is preposterous and boring, the acting execrable, and the direction fast asleep. None of this was helped by the sclerotic concept of the fighting man as naughty-boy-with-heart-of-gold. Yawn.

Some specifics: Suzy Parker has all the acting ability of a block of wood, and Cary Grant gives the worst performance of his career. In addition to his character being a self-righteous and anger-riddled jackass, Grant himself comes across as genuinely enraged. And who could blame him? After all, he's starring in one of the stupidest and most pointless movies ever made. He reminds me of Kirk Douglas, who was once described as looking as though he was ready to stalk off the set any minute.

On the plus side: Jayne Mansfield is inevitably gorgeous, and Ray Walston gives a decent performance. Neither factor comes even remotely close to saving a movie so bloody awful that I'm surprised it hasn't yet been remade with Ben Affleck and other of our current crop of no-talents.

Movie Review: Cheaper than Ambien as a sleeping aid.....
Summary: 1 Stars

In his later years, Cary Grant wasn't so picky about what films he did, as long as the paycheck was there. This bomb is one reminder of Grant's many mis-fires, and one that will surely put you to sleep while watching it, as it is quite dull and boring. Although certain viewers can enjoy moments here to admire the physical attributes of Jayne Mansfield, most people will be downright bored by this dull movie. It was a failure when released to theaters, and remains so now.

A DUD!
