Movie Reviews of Kiss Me Kate

Movie Review: Great "Kate"; lousy DVD packaging
Summary: 5 Stars

This film has to be one of the very greatest stage --> movie transfers. Uniformly strong cast and a chance to see some early Bob Fosse choreography. Though Hermes Pan does most of the choreography, three male dancers (Fosse, Tommy Rall, and Bobby Van) choreograph individual sections of "From This Moment On".

I saw this film when it was re-released in 3-D in the 1980s and wish we had 3-D TV screens. But even without the 3-D effects its a wondeful movie.

Others have noticed the substandard packaging and I agree the cardboard cover is constructed in such a way that the disk could easily be damaged. I'm all for "green" but I don't think this is the reason for the substandard packaging.

But don't let the packaging deter you; "Kiss Me, Kate" is a great, great film.

Movie Review: Kiss Me Kate
Summary: 5 Stars

Directed by George Sidney with all the color and verve befitting a top-shelf MGM production, "Kate" re-teamed Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson after their successful turn together in the studio's Technicolor re-make of "Showboat" (1951). The pair never hit a false note playing off each other, with Keel's manly bearing and baritone complementing Grayson's feminine but fiery persona and expressive soprano voice. With its ingenious story of romantic shenanigans on and off the stage, "Kiss Me Kate" remains irresistible entertainment.

Movie Review: "So In Love" With Kiss Me Kate!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the greatest musicals ever!!!! Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, Ann a cast! And wonderful songs, such as "Wunderbar", "So In Love", "I Hate Men", "We Open In Venice", "Brush Up Your list goes on and on! I reccomend this to any musical fan. You'll be "So In Love" with it too!!!

Movie Review: Keel is keen!
Summary: 5 Stars

Grayson is good, but Howard Keel steals this show. He shines in the role of the egomaniacal stage ham. His voice and his presence are perfect for the role. Ann Miller and Tommy Rall provide all the dance moves you could ask for in a great musical. If you are a fan of musicals, this is a must for your collection. The DVD also provides some fun behind the scenes information.

Movie Review: Kiss Me Kate
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful, typical musical of the fifties. The music harmony between Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson is beautiful to hear. One of the highlights is the comedy skit with the late James Whitmore. Definitely a movie to round out your fifties musical experience.
