Movie Review: 1986 wasn't a nice year for Kong

Unlike the three main Kong films that have been released (1933, 1976, 2005), in which I have mixed feelings for, King Kong Lives is the one that I despise the most. Not only is this one of the worst films I have ever seen, but it's also one of the most tedious films I have ever seen. If you think Kong, you think of a giant ape who develops a crush on a young woman and climbs the Empire State Building. The producers of KKL must have thought that was too ridiculous, so they decided to focus on a resurrected Kong and his new mate, which turns out to be another 50-foot tall ape of the opposite sex. This sort of story simply doesn't work, because it sounds like it comes straight out of a nature documentary. There's no energy in the story, and a majority of the characters have little or no personality. As a matter of fact, everything about this movie is BEYOND dull. The acting, the dialogue, the cheap special effects, even the music is lacking true excitement. And let's not go into detail about the special effects: they're so cheap that they're laughable. It's like the makers of KKL tried real hard to show us that the sets and the gorilla suits were of the poorest quality. It's so obvious that Kong and his mate are actually human size, and they never try to hide the fact that they are. How much money was spent for this, anyway?
King Kong Lives is one of the worst (and one of the most tedious) movies I have ever seen. It's irredeemable in many ways, and it doesn't do Kong justice. I can recommend the cheesy '76 remake, but I can't recommend this one.
