Movie Review: Entertaining

Bought this DVD for my Father who was a Kenny Rogers. He was very pleased and like the selection of the songs. I viewed it with him, and I enjoyed it. Kenny was still charming and did a good job. His voice was not exactly as it use to be in his younger years, but not bad for a live performance. He seemed to select songs that were still within his range as well as his most popular ones. I would recommend it to a Kenny Roger's fan.

Though a little older and a little more gruff, Kenny Rogers is still a charmer who knows how to rope in an audience and keep them happily captive. Kenny Rogers: Live by Request (2001) is an hour and a half of the country artist's greatest hits and audience favorites backed by a tight and smooth band. Starting with an upbeat "Islands in the Stream" (solo, no Dolly), he sets the pace for a lively, friendly show. Following the usual format of A&E's Live by Request series, fans from North America call in to talk to Kenny and ask him to sing a song for them. Seventeen songs are featured, including "Daytime Friends," "Lucille," "Lady," "Coward of the Country," "We've Got Tonight," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Love Will Turn You Around," and, of course, "The Gambler."
