Movie Review: An All-time Great Guy Flick!!!
Summary: 5 Stars
Does it get better than this? I don't think so! This movie has everything -- action, bravery, destruction, great music, real emotion, cool actors, balanced doses of drama and humor, and some of the greatest lines ever heard on screen (Rickles: "This gun's heavier than one of Kelsey's burgers!" and "Go get yourself a bucket of grits!" Clint to Savales: If you don't [lead us], I will." Sutherland to his disagreeable tank mechanic: "Again with the negative waves!" O'Connor commenting on his defeated German rival: "Hell, I even have one of his broads around here."). You see what I mean. My brothers and I can recite this script perfectly. How often does that happen? Some movies just click with the male mind. (Others include "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming," "The Great Race," "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," "Trading Places, "The Great Escape," "What Did You Do In The War Daddy?" and any pre-1980 Eastwood effort.) Kelly's Heroes is filled with characters only a guy could love, real comedians (except Clint, but who cares--he's cool!) surrounded by guns, tanks, grenades, Germans, and -- at the end of the line -- a huge treasure in gold (which the Germans help recover because they're cool guys too.) In fact, if you don't like this movie, you're probably nuts -- or a girl!
