Movie Reviews of Kathy Smith: Step Workout

Movie Review: You'll Love Kickin' it "Old-School" with Kathy
Summary: 5 Stars

Originally released in 1992, this is a classic fat-blasting workout. Yes, it's more than 15 years old, but it still kicks serious butt. The picture isn't exactly HD-quality, but the DVD menu makes it easy to jump to your favorite segments of the workout. One criticism: I wish they had gone all the way and made it fully programmable, so you could customize your workout in advance (i.e. you pick the warm up, section 1, the ab section, cool-down, then hit play and get the workout your way). This is a very low-tech DVD, so all you get is a menu. Unless you want to play the whole workout start to finish, you have to do the warm up, go back to the main menu, choose the next segment you want, go back to the main menu, etc. These days, most exercise DVDs are programmable, and that would have made this release even better. But that's a minor annoyance, especially at such a low price. Overall, this is a top-notch, "old-school" workout and highly recommended.

Movie Review: Advanced without being TOO advanced
Summary: 5 Stars

Love this workout. Great length (about an hour), nice long warmup. Good choreography without being super complicated or super fast. I've been mourning the "out of print" status of the old Reebok videos for years now and this is the best substitute I've found. There are parts where I ramp it up and substitute some moves I remember from classes or Step Reebok, just to make it a little more difficult/varied, but it's a great workout. VERY 90's, so get ready to have a giggle at the thong unitards/knee length bike shorts :)

Movie Review: Great Workout
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great DVD. The choreography is easy for beginners to follow but you get a great workout; it is not easy in terms of feeling like you've actually done something. I also like that one can choose to do the entire program or skip specific parts depending on time and energy available. Note- I have a step that is not as long as the gym-style steps and that calls for some very slight modifications on the V-Steps and turn steps but really not a big deal, just something I thought I'd share.

Movie Review: Step work-out and I mean work-out
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the other reviews before I purchased this DVD..
and understand the concern over intensity.
I am not really coordinated and it has taken me some
time to get the routines down. That said.. after doing a section in slow motion for a few days..the moves finally come ...
It also took a few days to get "up to speed" with the
work-out....but it really gets me going !!
I am 60 and if I can do it... most people can also.

Movie Review: Used in high school and then 10 years and 3 babies later!
Summary: 5 Stars

I used this video along with a bike workout to maintain fitness while in high school. I used it in college, and then after baby number 1, 2, and 3. The routine is easy to pick up and memorize. These days I just shoot down the volume and work out to my favorite aerobic playlist while trying to ignore the 90's dress code. I've lost weight using this video. It has also been effecive to use on off days while training for 5 and 10k's.
