Movie Review: Best Latin Dance Workout of Three I've Tried

I love Latin music, and I wanted to find a Latin dance workout DVD. My first try was Lisa Nunzio's Dance with Lisa: Red-Hot Salsa Made Simple, done with only a drummer and two other dancers. Although Lisa explains the steps well, the tempo was just too fast and the drum accompaniment didn't do it for me. The second I tried was Desi Bartlett's Dance and Be Fit: Latin Groove, done to recorded music with two other dancers. The tempo was okay, but it seemed unnecessarily complicated, with many steps and much cute encouraging talk -- "I KNOW you can do it!" (which has never made sense to me in a workout DVD, since the instructor can't see me). The third time was a charm. Kathy Smith's Latin Rhythm workout is much closer to the experience of actually having fun dancing to Latin music. The workout is filmed off-hours at a club with an actual band, and Kathy is joined by a group of dancers who appear to be really having fun, not just going through the steps with smiles stuck on their faces. The steps are not difficult, the number of different ones is just right, and the energy of the group is infectious. The workout sails by, and when it's over, I feel pleasantly exerted -- not wiped out, just happy to have done it and ready to go on with my day.
