Movie Reviews of K2

Movie Review: A good climbing movie but a poor DVD release
Summary: 3 Stars

I have this movie in VHS format. I was waiting for a DVD release in WIDESCREEN. The movie was shot on location in British Columbia and Pakistan. Mountain scenery is beautiful and climbing sequences breathtaking. Music is great. While not without flaws of its own, the movie captures the excitement, beauty, and tragedy of mountain climbing. It is much wiser than recent releases such as "Vertical Limit". When the movie is formated to fit the screen 30% of the picture gets [cut]. I am waiting for a widescreen release.

Movie Review: gift for someone else
Summary: 3 Stars

This film was a Christmas gift for my brother. I appreciate that amazon had a film that was made so long ago. It arrived in a timely fashion and he enjoyed it. Even though they have a large screen HD TV and this was made before HD, it was clear and enjoyable.

Movie Review: Mountain climbing is not easy
Summary: 3 Stars

This movie is excellent for its climbing sequences and for its realism-a true life story of heroism. I feel sure that I will view this purchase many times and share it with family and friends like a friend showed it to me years ago.

Movie Review: Hey, I'm on top of the world!
Summary: 2 Stars

I guess I would have never seen this film had not my young daughter got enthralled with it the other night on television. It was shown for the first time on Lithuanian television, apparently because of the recent "alpine fever" that has swept the country, with Lithuanians traveling far and wide to find mountains high enough to fulfill their adrenaline rush.

The movie itself seems aimed exclusively at young adolescents, making up for its lugubrious pace with enough literal cliffhanging scenes to keep you involved. There is the sole woman to play into the female audience, despite this being essentially a guy-bonding movie. Our intrepid pair, Taylor and Harold, finally get their chance to scale the peak of K2 thanks to the deaths of two more of Phillip Claiborne's men, barely surviving the downhill climb themselves.

I have to say that some of the scenes are breathtaking, as the cumbersome climbing team makes its way up K2, but all the close-up shots were obviously studio sets, ruining any realistic sense of the event taking place. If you are looking for real alpine adventure, I would suggest watching documentaries like Werner Herzog's "Dark Glow of Mountains" instead, which highlights two of Reinhold Messner's climbs.

Movie Review: K2
Summary: 2 Stars

The DVD is too much holliwood style and very little documentary. I wonder if the scenes are from the K2 itself. I was disppointed as i expected the rela thing
