Movie Review: Great movie...troubling DVD Summary: 2 Stars
"Jungle 2 Jungle" is a highly underrated comedy starring Tim Allen. It's a feel good family film and it's also very funny.Disney's DVD treatment of this personal favorite is a huge disappointment though. For starters, the packaging says "1.33:1 Fullscreen." Well, it's NOT. It's actually in 1.85:1 widescreen...which would be GREAT, but it's non-anamorphic. (Disney seems to be the ONLY studio still putting out non-enhanced letterbox transfers). The packaging also lists the wrong running time, and the film seems to have been put on two layers but still occupy under 5 GB. The video transfer could be better, but it's the audio portion that loses serious points. You see, even though this film was released in theaters with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, the DVD only contains a Dolby 2.0 Surround audio track. Most unfortunate, as the film has a very nice 5.1 Dolby Digital track on the anamorphic-but-PAL Region 4 (Australia) DVD, even the laserdisc did. And of course most troubling is the lack of extra features. While I would have been shocked at a Tim Allen/John Pasquin commentary, including the very cool trailer wouldn't have killed them. Nope, not even a trailer is here to be found, and there is some really good making-of material available on this film - location footage, interviews with the cast and crew, B-Roll Footage. Disney included it on their CD-ROM presskit, but nothing is here on the DVD. Very unfortunate that I waited nearly six years for this to come to DVD, and this is the best Disney could do. If it wasn't such an enjoyable film, it'd have gotten even less points. But, at least it's widescreen, despite the packaging and Disney's site info. Shame that they couldn't have put even a little bit of effort into making this DVD nice.
Movie Review: Jungle 2 Jungle Summary: 1 Stars
This Film is the second most appaling film (placed just fractionaly under "blue crush") I have endured in my short life. The film was so awfull that i was hugely supprised to see that walt disney had produced this film, i was aware that the standard of the films had been going down hill, but this, this was compleate and utter bilge. To start with the characters were so hugly unbelivable and cliche. Tim allen (who befor i thought of as a respected actor) who is Micheal, a highly paid trades-man in new york says to his newly found son as they are "bonding" in the Jungle " how far are we going, these shoes cost me five thousand dollars". or some other rubbish along those lines. But to be fair that could not even compare to most horrific and mind numminly stupid ending that does acually beat "blue crush" .When father and son unite in some slapstick comedey, you know the usual vases over heads etc. The one thing i did enjoy in "Junle 2 Jungle" was when Micheal (Tim Allen) shots his cat, this in it's self wasn't funny it was the stuffed cat that was used that was funny. It seemed that Disney had run out of money, or enthusiasim and that one of the camera men had stolen his daughters cuddley-toy cat to uses and as Tim Allen held it up (trying to wake it up) you could see quiet blatently that is was by no way a real cat. In conclusion, if you want to see one of the most awfull films made in history then please go ahead and buy it, wast your money if not on this then on some other some other appaling film. As i saud befor this IS the second worst film i have ever seen

Movie Review: Another great film gets Panned and Scanned on DVD Summary: 1 Stars
Unlike most people, I have been looking forward to the DVD release of "Jungle 2 Jungle" for quite some time. When it was finally announced as coming to DVD in Region 1 this October, I was thrilled. I was hoping for some nice extras and a solid anamorphic widescreen transfer. But alas, Jungle 2 Jungle falls victim to one of a boatload of bad decisions by Disney's DVD department. This DVD will be Pan & Scan only. And barebones. It's a complete shame that Disney doesn't understand that people who like certain movies and wish to own them do not wish to own them cut up for the size of soon-to-be-outdated TVs. It was widescreen on laserdisc, but an even better alternative is to go with the European DVD versions which are widescreen. The Region 2 and Region 4 DVD releases are both barebones, but the movie is in anamorphic widescreen and not cut up. After several delays, Jungle 2 Jungle finally makes its American DVD debut, and yet it falls short of what has already been released elsewhere in the world a few years ago! If you like this movie, you'll pass on this DVD and show Disney that you want all films (no matter what genre) to be in their original aspect ratio (be it Academy Ratio as with classic films or Widescreen as it is for the great majority of modern cinema) on DVD. What a letdown!
