Movie Reviews of Julius Caesar

Movie Review: Finally, a DVD version!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am so glad that someone finally has put Julius Caesar on a DVD. I am an English teacher and in the spring I teach Julius Caesar at least four or five times a day, and have done so for the past eleven years. I've had two or three copies of the movie because the video wore out with all the rewinding, etc... from when we watched the scenes after reading them. Now with a DVD I don't have to worry about the tape wearing out, and I can enjoy the movie for years to come! Thank you!

Movie Review: Rarely has Shakespeare Been Adapted This Well for the Screen
Summary: 5 Stars

A fine cast and a faithful reading of the play contribute to one of the most satisfying transfers of Shakespeare to the big screen ever filmed.
Marlon Brando is fine as Marc Antony but for me James Mason and John Gielgud are absolutely brilliant as Brutus and Cassius respectively.
This is truly a fine production that has held up well and remains one of the better film adaptations of Shakespeare alongside the Olivier works.

Movie Review: Teacher's Review
Summary: 5 Stars

By far, this version of Julius Caesar is the best. Marlon Brando is outstanding in his portrayal of Marc Antony ( note his "Dogs of war" speech as well as his eulogy of Caesar and use of verbal irony). Also of note is Sir John Gielguld and his portrayal of Cassius. This film really brought to life this wonderful Shakesperian play for my 10th graders (although they were bummed out that it was in B&W).

Movie Review: My Favorite Shakespeare
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely the best Shakespeare movie I've seen. I enjoyed DiCaprio in "Romeo and Juliet" and I loved Toshiro Mifune's performance in Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood (Macbeth)," but Brando's acting elevates this one to a new level. He is joined by a fine cast of British actors including John Gielgud and James Mason. If you love Shakespeare or Marlon Brando, you'll want to own this one.

Movie Review: Truly a classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my husband's birthday present after he'd seen it (again) on TV and asked for it. I'd never seen this particular version before, but I was both amazed and impressed. Wonderful!
