Movie Reviews of Julius Caesar

Movie Review: Outstanding
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie has to be the single best movie adaptation of a William Shakespeare play of all time. It certainly boasts the best line up of stars, including the likes of Marlon Brando, Greer Garson, John Gielgud, Deborah Kerr and James Mason. These actors and actresses still register with today's moviegoers as being among the all time great.

The movie's script is unusually literate considering the fact that so many Shakespeare movies feature dumbed down dialogue. The direction is flawless and so are the technical aspects.

If you ever want to check out an adaptation of a Shakespeare play, then the 1953 version of Julius Caesar with Marlon Brando in the role of Mark Antony should be the one to watch.

Movie Review: Julius Caesar
Summary: 5 Stars

Mankiewicz's quintessential, star-studded adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy is a lavish, Oscar-winning production. Gielgud, Mason, O'Brien, Greer Garson, and Deborah Kerr all shine in their respective roles. And Brando, fresh off his success in "A Streetcar Named Desire," puts the mumbling Stanley Kowalski out of mind as he yelps "Let loose the dogs of war!" and intones Antony's unforgettable funeral speech with a gravity befitting the role. Worlds better than other screen versions, and one of the finest meditations on personal versus public ethics, "Julius Caesar" deserves your adulation.

Movie Review: Superior drama!
Summary: 5 Stars

This lavish adaptation about Julius Caesar ` s powerful Shakespeare drama joined one of the most formidable casts of the fifties, consecrated actors such John Gielgould, Louis Cahlern, James Mason (Odd man out and Five fingers) and Greer Carson, Deborah JKerr and Marlon Brando with raising promises such Edmond O 'Brien (D.O.A), deserved the coveted honor among the great films around this superior drama of political connotations.

One of the most distinguished films into the remarkable artistic trajectory of this notable director.

Movie Review: Timeless
Summary: 5 Stars

Shakespeare's themes of politics, betrayal, murder are relevant to every time period and generation. In Julius Caesar, the bard leads us to question what defines honor. This film is amazing - particularly the performances by Marlon Brando and James Mason. Because Shakespearean plays can be challenging to read, a film (or a play) is a wonderful way to understand his works. The acting in this film was wonderful (by an all-star cast) and succeeded in bringing Caesar, Brutus, Marc Antony (and the other characters) of Caesar's Rome to life.

Movie Review: The Pinnacle of Shakespeare Film Adaptation
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best film adaptations of Shakespeare I have seen. John Gielgud as Cassius leads a cast that relies on the poetry of the text itself to raise the subtleties and truths of the play. All of the actors give solid performances, and Marlon Brando certainly looked the part of Antony. Though Brando's performance is the weakest, it still seems to fit with the film. This is the epitomy of what a Shakespearean film adaptation should be and is worth watching over and over again: Just like Shakespeare, it never gets old!
