Movie Review: Amazing Production of the Lloyd Weber and Rice Musical

To be quite honest I was skeptical when I heard my friend giving rave reviews of Donny Osmond's performance in the Lloyd Weber-Rice musical "Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." However since my seven year old is a fan of Andrew Lloyd Weber's hit musical "Cats" I decided to give it a go. I was not disappointed. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was written in the late 1960's by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice after having been approached by a friend to write an end of term musical for his school to produce. After throwing ideas back and forth Tim Rice came up with the idea of a musical based on the Bible story of Joseph and as they say the rest is history. This production features a talented ensamble of performers with Donny Osmond as Joseph, Maria Friedman as the narrator, Sir Richard Attenborough as Jacob and Joan Collins as Mrs. Potiphar. When I was a kid, for Donny Osmond, my mom took me to the Fox Theater in Detroit, MI to see this play. Donny Osmond was Joseph when we went, it was his first night back playing him. It was an amazing concert that got me into music. When this movie was released years later, I loved it because it's the imagination of this play meant to be seen by kids in a major hollywood production.
