Movie Reviews of Johnny DangerouslyMovie Review: extremely overlooked Summary: 4 Stars
i have to admit that all a comedy needs to do for me is make me laugh. it doesnt have to be a great story or be completely dedicated to its subject matter as in a normal film. most comedys have a thinly veiled story with numerous jokes to keep the audience laughing and Johnny dangerously is one of those films. although the pinnacle of the film is the abuse of Roman Marone's foreign accent, there are so many other great jokes here. the acting is bad, and probably intentional since the fourth wall seems to be nonexistant and well thought out jokes make you laugh without thinking. they take advantage of their surroundings and the time frame of the film for some really hilarious moments. this may not be comedy royalty but its ten times funnier than some other spoofs by the Wayans Brothers (with the exception of Im Gonna Get you Sucka) or even the Hot Shots series.
Movie Review: Fargin' Hillarious! Summary: 4 Stars
Johnny Dangerously still holds up well as one of the best comedies of the early to mid 80's. Starring Michael Keaton in perhaps his greatest comedic role, this is the story of gangster Johnny Dangerously. Johnny's basically a good guy who finds himself forced into a life of crime in order to pay to treat his mother's increasingly bizarre ailments. Marilu Henner is great as Johnny's love interest, Lil, while Peter Boyle is hilarious as mob boss Jocko Dundee. Griffin Dunne plays Johnny's naieve, optimistic brother, who follows a different path to the district attorney's office, and Joe Piscopo is at his funniest as rival gangster, Danny Vermin. All in all, this is a hilarious send-up of the classic gangster genre.
Movie Review: Youza hafta see this fargin movie! Summary: 4 Stars
Commenting on a previous review; I agree strongly that the critics were way off with this one. I was far beyond satisfied with the comedic side of this movie; it was hilarious. Joe Piscopo was so damn funny it literally at times made my sides hurt from laughter. I'll never forget his excuse as to why he could park in a handicap zone; "I am handicapped; I'm psychotic". And the enemy crime boss (I forget his name), with all that foreign gibberish: "Youza violating mah fargin rights you iceholes. You sneaky bastages!", etc. - I own this movie on VHS (didn't really think it was necessary to get it on DVD), and I'm sure as Hell glad I bought it.
Movie Review: Sure it's silly, but... Summary: 4 Stars
I freely admit that I'm not into "silly" movies. I didn't expect to like this one, but I was bored and the DVD was cheap, so I brought it home. I was truly surprised; this is not a half-bad flick. Sure it's silly, but it's entertaining, and it works as a spoof. This is a great movie to keep handy for Friday night veg-out time and for bill-paying, tax-doing, paper-grading nights when a little diversion in the background is needed. It's a keeper.
Movie Review: I love this movie! Summary: 4 Stars
Michael Keaton is one of the most underrated actors of all time. I will stand by that until the day I die. Johnny Dangerously is full of laughs and some of the most quotable lines. The dynamics between the characters and the genuine silliness of this movie make it to die for. Sure, some of the laughs are cheap but they work in this movie like no other.
So just watch it and get a few laughs, you fargin' icehole!
