Canada Movie Reviews of Jim Thorpe: All AmericanMovie Review: A Great Introduction, but Look Deeper
I have always enjoyed this film, but only for what it is ...a Hollywood-ized account of Jim Thorpe's life, far from accurate. Incorrect facts, invented characters, and other fallacies too numerous to go into details. But a wonderful tribute to the greatest natural athlete of the 20th century, and a good introduction to a complicated man. If you want to try to know the TRUE Thorpe, dig deeper and read about him. Even those that knew him said they could never quite figure him out. A good account of Thorpe's Carlisle years, his Olympic professionalism charges, the forced Americanization and education of Native Americans, and the great impact of the Carlisle Indians to the game of football can be found in a new book "THe Real All Americans: The Team That Changed a Game, A People, A Nation" by Sally Jenkins. Its a good account of a very complex and remarkable man. |
