Movie Reviews of Jesus

Movie Review: I loved it! Good intro for kids who don't know Jesus
Summary: 5 Stars

It's interesting that I am the 116th person to write about this movie. I think everyone has their own view of Jesus and what happened to him and every movie will fall short for some people in some way. Some people have some very definite ideas about "facts" which are not clear in the bible. For example, the movie shows Jesus as an only child. Why would he be? Unless you believe that his mother had to remain a virgin til death because married sex is sinful (?). From my own reading, I never thought that Mary Magdelen and Mary the sister of Lazarus were different people. The identity of Mary Magdelen has been the subject of some discussion since "The DaVinci Code".
Film makers have to fill in the gaps from their own imagination and each of us has to chose the interpretation we like.
I liked watching Jesus as a joyful and very human character opposed to war and prejudice.
I felt that this was an ideal film for my children(aged 8)who are asking about Jesus. Being not religious myself, I do not revere "scriptures" above historical research. I wanted a movie that told a reasonable version of the story, with Jesus as a character the kids could admire and identify with. This one also gave a good explanation of why Jesus was killed. The crucifixion was painful to watch(...). I had bought a video called "Jesus" with a narator reading the gospel of Luke - boring!! This one is great.

Movie Review: Great movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this movie more than any of the other Christian movies, such as Jesus of Nazereth and so on. In this movie, Jesus is seen as more of how I would see him, as being full of life, laughter, and even likes to joke around with his disciples. He was not seen as the always very serious and somber type who never smiles, like in all the other movies that were made about him. However, there are some parts I don't agree with, like the devil coming to him in the garden the night he was captured. That is not in the Bible! It was a good angel that came to give him comfort. Also it shows the devil showing himself as a beautiful woman tryging to entice him when he was fasting for 40 days and nights, which is not mentioned in the bible and according to the bible,(the part about the devil being a woman that is) Jesus picked his disciples to come follow him, they did not pick him, such as the first two in the movie, who asked to be his followers. Anyway, except for a few things that I don't quite agree with since it is not in the Bible, I love how his personality is portrayed in this movie and don't like the other movies anymore, with him always being so somber and never smiling. The good Lord is a happy person and full of laughter! That is more of how I see Jesus!

Movie Review: Excellent Movie Portraying the Accurate Life of Jesus
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent movie! This was very well presented and on point with the accuracy of the life that Christ led. The movie first came on NBC three years ago around easter time and my brother, sister, and I were just glued to the television. The first thing people would think is that it's boring because it's a "Jesus" film, but this was a very impressive movie. The best of any movies about Christ! The acting was good, and very accurate in showing Jesus life in being tempted, crucified, and the love and mercy he showed to others. His love and forgiveness toward Mary Magalene in the movie shows how God is really loving and forgiving towards us as human beings. It was very touching. And unlike the Passion, it showed the rest of his life until he went back to heaven after resurrecting from the grave and, trust me, this was WAAAAAY better than "The Passion of the Christ". Please do not pay attention to any negative reviews. Some people just like to complain about what they don't understand and say that "inaccurate" and false things about Jesus Christ was in the movie when it was not. This is worth the buy and the watch, trust me on that, so please give this a chance and don't dismiss it just because a few athiests or disgruntled and unbelieving individuals have. This movie is excellent.

Movie Review: A very interesting portrayal of Jesus' life
Summary: 5 Stars

This may not be the most thorough or even accurate portrayal of Jesus, but it certainly holds my interest. I wasn't bored for a moment while watching it. It depicts many stories in the Gospel quite accurately, but I do agree with some of our other reviewers that I question whether or not Jesus actually was in love with women and vice versa. We don't usually think of Jesus in that way, and some Christians may even find it blasphemous, but we must remember that Jesus was indeed a human being while he was on this earth, although he was also the son of God. It's highly possible that Jesus felt love and temptation same as the rest of us do. This film certainly depicts the human side of Jesus, which I find very refreshing. It reminds me of the fact that he took human form and lived on this earth for awhile for the purpose of knowing what it's really like to be human. I also like the fact that his mother Mary plays such a major role in this film. We don't hear or think about Mary much except in the Christmas story, but no doubt she played a major role in Jesus' life, because she was his mother. If you want to see a movie about Jesus that will keep you entertained and leave you with a good feeling afterward, this is the one I would recommend.

Movie Review: The best Jesus movie to date
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great adaptation of the life of Jesus Christ. And the best part about it is, Jesus is portrayed as being human! In older movies, Jesus is very somber and serious. But in this movie, you see the human side to the man that is God. In one scene, Jesus is drinking water from a well and his disiples come to join him, only to be welcomed by Jesus splashing them with the water playfully and having a water fight with them. It shows Jesus laughing and having fun in this movie, just as Im positive he did in real life. Some people may not agree with me in saying that this was how Jesus was. But think about it, yes there were times when Jesus was teaching and serious, but Im sure he had fun as well. And where in the Bible is it a sin to laugh? In another scene, Jesus is picking his 12 disiples and calls out James and John, and calls them sons of thunder as he does in the Bible, but he does it in a kidding, playful manner.
This film shows is probably the closest to how Jesus was in real life. It depicts the God side of Jesus as well as the man side, as so many "Jesus" movies fail to do. This movie is a great witnessing tool and a must have DVD!
