Movie Reviews of Jerry Lee Lewis: Last Man Standing LiveMovie Review: The Killer puts you under on this one Summary: 5 Stars
You may be surprised at a creaky, chubby Jerry Lee, but at least you know he's no longer doing speed, even though he still plays like it. This terrific show has an all-star backup band featuring Ronnie Wood and lovely backup singers in a beautiful setting. Unlike most tribute shows, the interviews are brief and pertinent. (No "What did Woopie Goldberg think about the Beatles?" type questions.) Nice brief history of Jerry Lee is interwoven into the show, which is excellent on every song. Sound is very good although we lose one of Ronnie's solos. The hits are here, along with some lovely weepers. You can't go wrong on this one, I am so happy they did this show. Money well spent.
Movie Review: Jerry Lee Lewis - Last Man Standing Summary: 5 Stars
Fabulous concert with some unusual duets. Killer and Tom Jones together, for instance! Bought dvd based on seeing concert on PBS - wanted to see it again! Each performer who sang with Jerry Lee had a small interview before their song, and it was obvious they all were influenced by him in their careers. Jerry Lee showed that although he sits through his performances now, his piano playing and singing haven't dropped off at all. Other performers were Nora Jones, Solomon Burke, Buddy Guy, Chris Isaak, Ron Wood, Merle Haggard, Ivan Neville, Kris Kristofferson, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson and Kid Rock. If you are a 50's rock'n'roll fan, this is worth every penny!
Movie Review: Great Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful DVD. Jerry's piano playing is great, the song selections are diverse, from rock to blues to gospel. His and Kid Rock's rendition of Honky Tonk Woman is memorable. I have just one complaint. The echo is up way high on his microphone. It doesn't matter on most of the songs but on his duets with Kris Kristopherson and Merle Haggard you can hardly hear them above Jerry. However, if you go to the Bonus Features and catch his echoless microphone you will hear a great, great rendition of Goodnight Irene with Merle. Buy this DVD. You will not be disappointed.
Movie Review: Must have DVD for music lovers Summary: 5 Stars
Jerry Lee may be 71, but 'The Killer' still has it. This concert pairs Jerry Lee with other legends for a wonderful concert featuring Rock & Roll, Soul, Gospel, Boogie Woogie and Country standards in the style that endears Jerry Lee to us. You will sway, shake, tap your feet and cry during this two hour classic performance.
'Who Will the Next Fool Be" with Solomon Burke, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" with Fogerty & Kristofferson and 'Honky Tonk Woman' with Kid Rock are show stoppers!
Movie Review: JLL Summary: 5 Stars
Not being a JLL fan this DVD caught my attention for the quality of the video and sound.I really didn't know how talented the guy was until I heard all of the songs he did. Once I started watching it I couldn't stop.
As old as he is he can still hit those piano keys even with arthritic fingers, and if there were mistakes I missed them. I reccommend this DVD as one of the finest experiences and rank it right up there with "Crossroads" and the "Eagles" DVDs.
