Movie Review: Move over, Pat Metheny Group!

I was on the verge of cancelling this order...the original release date was last September! Dunno why the delays, but this DVD raises the bar for musicianship. I've waited to see footage of JLP for over two decades, and this concert delivers! Ponty has had some stellar musicians over the years, but this just may be his best lineup yet. I was floored watching these guys display their chops. Each selection was a tour de force for his band members...when Ponty himself wasn't burning up the violin bow, he'd be standing back with a broad smile on his face as one of his awesome musicians took a turn.If I have a complaint, it's that the concert was edited down a bit too much; an extra thirty minutes would've made for the perfect length. Also, that the "Touring Memories" is a teaser as to just how much extra footage is still unreleased ( I remember seeing his group on public television over twenty five years ago, performing a track from "Imaginary Voyage" ). Here's hoping that Ponty will follow Dave Matthew's example and release maybe three or four more of these gems...hope springs eternal!
