Movie Reviews of Jaws 2

Movie Review: The Best (In My Opinion) Of The Jaws Films
Summary: 5 Stars

The original Jaws is one of those movies that pretty much everyone has seen and it is well known for being one of film's scariest movies of all time. So scary that it sent people who were avid ocean lovers desperately shrieking back to shore, never wanting to swim again (Cmon, you know that if you are swimming in the ocean and that jaws theme pops into your head that you are going to FREAK out and want OUT of that water fast!).

Jaws 2 is one of the best sequels ever made (The only other better one I can think of off the top of my head is Aliens) and it hasn't gotten the credit it deserves. The shark in this film is angry and out for blood.

Where the predecessor won viewers over with suspense and pacing, this film takes off out of the gates like seabiscuit and doesn't relent. There are a lot more shark attacks and although the "cheese" factor is higher and the tone is less serious than the first, this movie really, really works!

This is certainly the best of the films, in my opinion. It is way scarier and far more entertaining. The first was groundbreaking and had some of the best characterization in cinema history...but if you want a little more fluff and a lot more fire-power, watch this one! It's worth it!

Jaws II DVD

Roy Scheider returns as the police chief of Amity, a resort town somewhere in New England, which has been terrorized by a Great white Shark (GWS)

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, he's back.

The excellent music composed by John Williams will always make me think of JAWS.

Watch out for the seabirds, they'll know when the GWS is around.

The parasailing shown reminded me of using a bobber while fishing or fly fishing for trout... The skier was like trolling for marlin. When the ski boat blows up there is no direct evidence of what happened and of course the mayor and the city council don't want to believe. The police chief is fired. He didn't help himself when he cleared the beach and shot at a school of blue fish.

Throughout the movie the GWS is anthropomorphized so that we / the movie makers give him almost human intelligence.

Not recommended for anyone who wants to swim in the ocean. For me it's swimming pools from now on, Baby.

Gunner February, 2008

P.S. The GWS isn't really dead, I saw him out in Los Angeles at the Universal Studios park

Movie Review: "A Worthy Sequel To A Blockbuster!
Summary: 5 Stars

"Jaws 2" is probably the best sequel in movie history. Although not the classic like the original "Jaws", this film proved that people still wanted to be scared of the water three years after its predecessor shook up the boxoffice. "Jaws 2" would be one of the top 25 biggest movies of all-time for over twenty years, a fact that many fans and critics fail to remember.
Steven Speilberg could not be persuaded to direct the film, but Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton reprise their roles as another great white shark wrecks havok on a summer-time resort. The script is not as strong as the original, but there are some scenes that will scare you, especially the scene in which the shark attacks a helicopter, and the scene in which a woman is attacked in her boat. The ending is a great finale, nearly as good as the original.
"Jaws 2" had the best marketing campaign for a film when it was released in the summer of 1978: "just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water!".
The DVD is full of bonuses, including "The Making of Jaws 2 Documentary", deleted scenes, trailers, and more.

Movie Review: Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back In The Water
Summary: 5 Stars

Jaws 2 is a very good sequel to the original 1975 blockbuster, unlike the other two sequels that came in the 80's. It had been four years since the infamous great white shark terrorized the small summer resort of Amity Island. But in all of the vast and unknown depths of the ocean, how could there been only one? Really simple, it's impossible. In this 1978 sequel directed by Jeannot Scwarz, unsuspecting vacationers begin to dissapear in an all too familiar fashion, and only one man knows the truth. This new shark is not only attacking divers and waterskiers, but teenagers manning sailboats, including Martin Brody's two sons Michael and Sean. Roy Scheider returns as Amity Police Chief Martin Brody who this time finds himself in a race against time to save his sons and other teenagers from the beast. The ending is a real shocker if you know what I mean. Anyways, Jaws 2 is a good sequel unlike Jaws 3 and Jaws The Revenge which could use the MST3K treatment (that's what Tom Servo would say).

Movie Review: There's a New Fish in the Pond
Summary: 5 Stars

Poor unwilling Brody tackles an even bigger great white in Jaws 2, without any help from Hooper or Quint. His motivation is his two sons Sean and Michael, who go daysailing with a group of young islanders and get into a terrifying situation only their dad can get them and the others out of. I enjoyed Jaws, but I liked Jaws 2 better. It has more upbeat music and colorful sails on the boats. Roy Scheider again plays Brody but with a new fish to deal with. Lorraine Gary again plays his wife while Murray Hamilton again appears as the reluctant mayor. Even though Steven Spielberg was not the director, the action moved very nicely with plenty of heart-stopping moments. The movie may not scare viewers as much as Jaws did, but I feel it is a worthy sequel to the original blockbuster.
