Movie Reviews of Jason and the Argonauts

Movie Review: My search is over!
Summary: 5 Stars

For years since a child, I have been searching for that movie that I once watched in a dark movie theater that terrified/entranced me with its music and "special effects" (which most kids nowadays scoff at, including my own) This movie, and its "cousins" the Sinbad movies, were the stuff of adventure/fantasy thrills of the youths from the 50's and 60's.I'll never forget my gasping at the giant iron soldier strolling upon the rocky beach to destroy the sailship trying desperately to escape its path.
Or the ships figurehead opening its eyes when talking to Jason. And now, I finally have this movie for my very own childhood memories!

Movie Review: Jason, Hercules. . . and his argonauts
Summary: 5 Stars

Not only does this one have rollicking special effects by the master Harryhausen, but it is quite intelligent in delivery. The negotiations between the gods of Mt. Olympus, Jason and his people leave you wondering if real life actually works that way. Are the gods that watch over us, playing us like pawns? Who knows, but Jason, who arrives personally to Mt. Olympus and discusses his longing to find the "golden fleece", then finds the paths that the gods bestow to the ends of the earth.
Wonderful movie, fine cast, believable effects, and astounding score by Bernard Herrmann, the John Williams of his day.

Movie Review: Better than at the drive-in
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this at the drive-in when I was about 10 or so. It was that, a Simbad movie and Clash of the Titans. Jason was cooler, and he never lost his helmet or sword when he fought bad guys. The fact that he never has a helmet in the movie is of little consequence. He just wouldn't loose it if he had one. That is how cool this guy is. I love this DVD. I don't care about the technical end. Sometimes I think the reviewers are a bit up tight don't you? Hey, the picture looks better than VHS. The sound is better than VHS. I don't even have to buy a new copy every 2 years due to wear. Yeah!

Movie Review: Withstands Time!
Summary: 5 Stars

Great movies withstand their time. This remastered movie is done so well it was like watching it for the first time. The special effects were amazing and the storyline keeps your interested. My 7-seven year old pulls out his sword and fights the battles with Jason (helps that I have a 50" screen). The last scene is worth waiting for........you'll want to watch it more than once. Don't waste your time and money on the remake----the original 1963 version is still worth it. Thanks Amazon for making this so easy----I had trouble finding a copy at the local video stores. Now, I'm happy to own it.

Movie Review: Harryhausen and the Argonauts
Summary: 5 Stars

"Jason and the Argonauts" is a Ray Harryhausen fuelled adventure, in colour (1963) based on the Greek myth, full of stop motion monsters, intrigue, great locations and costumes. Like a lot of the Ray Harryhausen related DVDs, there's "The Harryhausen Chronicles" documentary added as a special feature (at least on the version of the DVD I watched), narrated by Leonard Nimoy and feauturing interviews with Ray Harryhausen, fans like Ray Bradbury and George Lucas, as well as rare stop motion footage Harryhausen never used in films. It's a great feature, a great documentary, a great package.
