Movie Reviews of Jason Goes to Hell

Movie Review: Best Of The J-Man's Adventures!
Summary: 5 Stars

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday. Wow. What a fun film. Best of the Friday the 13th series. An excellent flick. Underrated. Those are just some words that describe this movie.

I'm a huge fan of the Friday The 13th series. I even own them all on DVD, despite the fact that the Paramount DVDs are lacking in extras. I watch them over and over again. However, I'm with the small group of fans who find this one the best. It's different from the others, and I like that. Friday the 13th Part VIII Jason Takes Manhattan is actually my least favorite of them all, because it's very tired and pretty dull. That's what makes JGTH special. It tries to be a standout in the series, and delivers like no other. It never slows down in the slightsest. There's some really cool action scenes, and the gore is top notch. In fact, if you're watching the Unrated version (the only one that should be watched), it's safe to say this is the goriest of the whole series (I was extremely dissapointed with Jason X's gore scenes, which were few). What we got here is a probe through the head, an impalement through a naked girl (who is chopped in half), smashed neck, melting man, crushed skull, broken back, and many more. This one also has the most topless girls in it (only in the Unrated version), including an incredibly graphic sex scene that earned the film an NC-17!

The acting in this flick is way better than in the others. Everyone looks like they're having fun, and nobody's taking it to0 seriously (except maybe Erin Gray). Most of the people in this movie are adults, which is a change for these movies (though in the others 25 year olds were playing teens) and even some veteran actors like Erin Gray and Billy Green Bush (for the masterpiece Critters). John D. Lemay is very likeable as the nerdy but strong Steven, and Kari Keegan makes a realistic and smart Jessica. I loved Vicki, and Allison Smith played her just right. Other supporing roles were all fantastic, including Rusty Schwimmer, Richard Gant, Steven Culp, and Steven Williams.

The directing is dynamite. I can't believe 23 year olds could make such a good looking movie. The action sequences are very cool, and the deaths give you all the detail. My favorite action scenes is either the diner shoot-out or the police blow-out. Very fun.

Anyway, moving on to the DVD, it's very good. Not a special edition, or anything, but it is great. The picture is almost flawless (the movie always looked better than the others), and the sound is loud. The special features are what made me rush buy it though. There's a funny audio commentary that I've listened to twice, and the trailer. There's also an extremely uselful and fun for parties Jump to The Death. Click play all and let em roll! There's also very interesting television Scenes.

#1. Diner Scene. I really enjoy this extended scene and wish it hadn't been cut. it develops all the characters as friends more and was very sweet.

#2. Prank Phone Call. This is a hilarious scene that would have been in the film instead of the big sex scene had test audiences not asked for sex. So the guys had to go add that tasty little ten scene (which I prefer), so this scene was cut. It's funny, but ruined a little by bad TV dubbing ("Holy Crow! Holy Gee! Frig You! Freaking!").

#3. Cuffing Steven. This is so short (15 seconds) it really makes no difference.

#4. Introduction Scene. A short scene, but it should have been left in because it further proves what a scumbag Robert is, when he lies to the sheriff about why he's in Crystal Lake.

#5. Giving Vikci The Baby. Just an extended scene, which makes no difference to the film.

#6. Vicki and David. This is a nice little scene where we meet Vickie's boyfriends, David, although it doesn't show him getting killed.

#7. Vicki Gets To Work. This extended scene shows more to the mean side of Joey B, as she hangs up a fake sympathy sign stating how much they loved Diana Kimble.

#8. Jessica Alone At Home. This extended scene of Jessica wandering around at night makes no real difference.

#9. Randy and Steven On The Roadside. This is a stupid extended scene that was fortunately trimmed down.

Another thing the DVD features is the option of R-Rated or Unrated versions. I love this because I can show people why the R-Rated version is horrible. However, it seems this isn't the real R-Rated version. If I remember correctly, after the teens say to Steven "We're thinking about smoking some pot, having some pre-marital sex, and not worrying about getting slaughtered", in the R-Rated version Steven didn't say "To be young again", but he does in this R-Rated verskion. Also, Ward's hand getting broken off is here, but it wasn;t on video. I don't know what's up with this, but since I'm not planning to watch this version anytime soon, it doesn't matter much.

Anyway, hope this review helped. Buy this movie now.
