Movie Reviews of Jane EyreMovie Review: BEST of all the versions of "Jane Eyre" ...!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is absolutely the BEST of all the versions of "Jane Eyre" produced so far. Absolutely first rate! Highly recommend!!
Jane Eyre is played by Joan Fontaine and Orsen Welles is Rochester.
Jane's family dies and she is taken in by an aunt. She doesn't fit in and is sent to boarding school where she eventually graduates. She accepts a position as teacher/governess to French child being raised by Rochester. Only after she moves in does she discover things are not as they seem in the household. Very well done. Don't miss!!
Movie Review: Best Version Finally on DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Jane Eyre is the ultimate gothic novel and this black and white version
remains the best. Joan Fontaine is perfect as Jane and Orson was quite
good as Mr. Rochester. Fine performance by Agnes Moorhead as the hateful
Aunt Reed. This is probably the only film where Elizabeth Taylor received
no billing. Maybe because she was on loan from MGM. She appears with
the young Jane, Peggy Ann Garner, at the awful school where both are abused.
She plays Helena who suffers an early demise.
Movie Review: Jane Eyre Summary: 5 Stars
The 1944 Orson Welles/Joan Fontaine version of the Charlotte Bronte classic, Jane Eyre, continues to be a riveting experience. Although there have been other fine and memorable versions since, this one remains my all time favorite. Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine will always remain the signal Edward Rochester and Jane Eyre in my opinion and in my mind's eye. Jane Eyre.
Movie Review: Jane Eyre Summary: 5 Stars
Without a doubt, this 1944 version of Jane Eyre, starring Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine, is the most haunting interpretation of this classic tale ever made, thoughly Gothic and atmospheric in its telling . . . amply aided by the insidious protrayal of Henry Daniell as Mr. Brockelhurst, and the tender performance (not credited) of Elizabeth Taylor as the ill-fated Helen Burns. One of Welles' greatest roles, in my opinion. It gets 5 stars from me.
Movie Review: Jane Eyre with Orson Welles - No comparison! Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen many versions of Jane Eyre, but none compare to this one. Done in black and white with no modern special effects, this movie sets the tone of the story and adheres to the book, which I am glad I read before seeing the movie. I am glad I have this DVD, so that I can re-watch it from time to time.
I am also glad to watch Elizabeth Taylor as a girl, playing a small but pivotal roll as Helen, Jane's friend at the orphanage.
