Movie Reviews of Jane Eyre

Movie Review: Jane Eyre Review
Summary: 5 Stars

Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine are two of my favorite actors and they protray Mr. Rochester and Miss Eyre beautifully in this version of Jane Eyre. Orson Welles is so blunt but masterful and yet graceful at the same time you almost seem to fall in love with him yourself. And Joan Fontaine, while seeming so meek and mild, has a backbone of true steel, perhaps due to where she had to spend her childhood. The way her childhood is portrayed is more graphic than in any version of this movie I have ever seen. It helps round out the personality of Jane Eyre, and also adds depth to the movie. The other actors in this version are cast wonderfully; I recommend this version of Jane Eyre above all others I have seen. If you are looking for a great drama this would be a good one to purchase. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Movie Review: Orson Welles is Richester
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read the book and yes the 1983 and even the 1996 version are more detailed and in depth considering that they are mini series and I love them as well. For my money Orson captures Rochester's masculinity far better than the actors in the above mentioned versions. It all boils down to the VOICE-so sexy, so strong and even through a paper thin script there are elements that are to be enjoyed especially the 3 young lady actresses, pitch perfect they are as a young Jane her friend Helen and of course the endearing Adele. Joan Fontaine as Jane is a product of the time acting wise and I found her very pretty and Orson a bit too young. But it was a quick paced film and I loved it. and I will state again watch it for his eyes and voice and sheer presence. I would recommend it.

Movie Review: To Eyre is Human
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally read the book, Jane Eyre, when I was an eighth grade student.
I loved the story then, and, I still do now. I have watched many versions of the movie, but my favorite has always been the Orson Welles-Joan Fontaine one. I feel that the original story line of Jane Eyre has been the template for many gothic tales, then, and now. The movie is still just as eerie and mysterious today as it probably was when it was made. The acting is superb. I highly recommend this version of the movie to anyone who is interested in watching "classic" movies. "Citizen Kane" is generally rated as number 1 of all the movies, but I truly believe that "Jane Eyre" should be way up on the list.

Movie Review: The Best of Versions!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen all of the versions of "Jane Eyre" and I think this is the best, even though there is much left out from the book. Welles captured the look, feel and utter angst of Rochester perfectly. Fontaine was also well cast and her Jane, falling in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester, was deftly seen and felt, all within the time and culture of that period in time. When I was a young girl this was one of my favorite movies, and dare I say it, it was a little scary in a gothic sort of way to a child. But all in all, a great classic and one I have watched many times and never tire of.

Movie Review: Jane Eyre DVD
Summary: 5 Stars

It's apparently not a chick flick! The funny thing is the DVD of Jane Eyre was wanted even more by my husband, Dennis, than by me...and I wanted it real bad. We are trying little by little to replace all our VHS classic movies with DVD. You made it possible with this one. So glad to have it...in perfect condition...and shipped very quickly. Now Dennis goes around the house desperately calling out, "Jaaaane, Jaaane!" like Mr. Rochester does when he needs Jane so badly after she went out of his life. You'd have to be there. But thanks.
