Movie Reviews of InvincibleMovie Review: I KNOW NADA ABOUT FOOTBALL, BUT THIS FILM WAS GREAT! Summary: 5 Stars
I viewed this film on a flight home from Las Vegas - when I saw "Invincible" as the feature film, I was disappointed. I figured since the flight was a long one any way, I'd watch the film, never knowing how much I would love it.
It was so fantastic that I purchased the DVD.
I know not one thing about football -- and had never heard of Vince Papale, but the story's theme transcends professional football to tell a story of the power of persistence in the face of adversity.
Mark Wahlberg does a really great job portraying Papale.
The supporting cast is equally impressive.
I strongly recommend this uplifting film to any one. Even to those football challenged like me.
And it's one you can take the kids to see and still enjoy it yourself!
Movie Review: Hurray for Philly Fan!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I gave this movie a star when we heard booing in the opening scene at Veterans Stadium and I knew this was going to be alot of fun!
I have been waiting for years to see a movie that basically was made for the people and the sports fans of Philadelphia, really a unique genre who play hard but stay true against a long history of disappointments.
Many heart tugging scenes here of the old Vet and its Liberty Bell as well as a great 70's sound track that reminds us all of a simpler era. Superior acting by Greg Kinnear and Mark Wahlberg. Hollywood does take a few liberties with the story of Papale's life but this is nothing new to any of us and the message is still the same ~ if you try hard enough you can do anything!
So for Philly Fan, this is your finest hour!!
Movie Review: Wahlberg gives a great performance in this movie Summary: 5 Stars
Very endearing movie that is about a man who is kind of "off the street" who makes the Eagles team in open tryouts. He goes from becoming a 30 year old bartender to Professional football player and it is a true story that has a lot of heart and emotion to it. Kinnear is also in the movie he plays coach Dick Vermeil. The movie is a great film for the family and is a story about triumph and chance and love of the game so to speak. It does not matter if you like football or the Eagles team it matters that you understand the message. Sometimes a movie like this fails but I think this one is a keeper and shows how dreams do come true even if they seem totally impossible. Mark is great as Vince and it shows the opportunity that is presented to him that he ultimately turns into a dream come true.
Movie Review: Invincible Summary: 5 Stars
When the coach of Vince Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale a down on his luck, 30 year old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player. This movie is heartfelt and gratifying, exciting movie that, like its hero, has heart. Wahlberg plays his role very effectively in this movie. Do yourself and your family a favor, watch this movie.
Movie Review: Solid, inspiring story. Very suprised it took this long to be a movie. Summary: 5 Stars
In the same style as Disney's film "the rookie", "Invincable" is a movie about a guy who gets a shot at something he never dreamed of. Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) is a man from south Philidelphia, hit hard in the late 70's by resession and the fall of many major industries, steel etc. Vince gets talked into trying out in new Philidephia Eagles coach Dick Vermele's (Greg Kinnear) open tryouts. Well, he manages to make camp, and the story takes off from their, carrying the weight of a city on his shoulders. A great story that I am suprised was overlooked this long. Entertaining, and a good as a family movie night. Underdog movies are a always fun, and if you like movies like "RUDY", "THE ROOKIE", and even "ROCKY", then this movie will be an instant touchdown.
