Movie Reviews of Invincible [Blu-ray]Movie Review: A feel good movie Summary: 4 StarsThis movie was well done, it builds the problem (a depressed era) and a lack of confidence and shows how one man handles that struggle with the help of his friends and family. A must watch and one that I would recommend purchasing. Then do a look up on Wikpedia to learn more about the man.
Movie Review: Wahlberg Scores Big Summary: 5 StarsI never would have known that this was a Disney film. It had all the right ingredients: a down and out underdog, a down and out team, a down and out town, and sports. But Disney played this film with a simple, sweet understatement that gave it a loud voice that every athlete and coach should listen to.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Vince Papale, who at 30 years old attends an open tryout for the struggling Philly Eagles and actually ends up winning a spot. Coach Dick Vermeil takes a huge chance in giving Papale a spot on the roster, and by movie's end, he knows that it's paid off.
This is a feel-good film along the lines of Rudy, but with Papale being far less annoying than Rudy Ruettiger. Wahlberg portrays Papale with the quietest confidence, which is sometimes the best kind. He has moments of self doubt that he overcomes by resolving to do his best. That's an excellent lesson for anyone who is trying to pursue what may seem like an impossible dream.
Only when Papale literally lets go of the doubts others had about him, his ex-wife specifically, who wrote him a note calling him a loser, is he able to truly fufill the expectations he has for himself and those of his fans.
Wahlberg carries this movie to a dandy conclusion, and he is fantastic in it. Wahlberg is becoming the consummate actor.
Movie Review: Very good Summary: 4 StarsOthers have gone into detail in plot, and as this is a straightforward film, there's no need to do so again. I will say this, though. If Vince's wife really did write him that note ("You're no good..."), boy is she chewing on wood right now. Then again, it was a Disney film, so we should accept that certain things are dramatized.
Some might complain that this is simplistic, but I would argue that it depicted real blue collar relationships, and actually had quite a bit to say about them.
In the end, though, it is a Disney movie, and there are Disney moments. If you're man enough to stand it, you might find yourself choked up a bit.
Movie Review: Hope and dreams Summary: 4 StarsA good feel good movie about a man overcoming his circumstances (many out of his control). A well tempered performance by Mark Wahlberg, who continues to show growth as an actor. The story is not just about him but also about his coach (an excellent portrayal by Greg Kinnear) as they both carry the hopes of many on their performances in the story! Good true story movie with period music, clothes and cars that can be watched by the whole family.
Movie Review: Mark Walberg's been better Summary: 3 StarsI liked this movie but not completely what I was expecting. It was based on a true story which also made it appealing but I found the story kind of dragged on. The football scenes were amazing though. Really got into the action and let you feel the violence that is professional football.
