Movie Reviews of Into the WestMovie Review: A Horse In The Apartment Summary: 4 Stars
I'll always remember this movie for the shock of seeing a horse trying to live in an apartment. Now, there's an unusual sight! By the way, I hadn't realized how nicely filmed this was until I saw it on 1.85:1 widescreen DVD. This is far better on disc than on VHS.
Also to my surprise was that it wasn't the happy, family film I had remembered. There are many moments of frustration, sadness, violence, injustice, ete. It's hardly a bunch of fun times. Yet, when it's over and you reflect back on it, it's the comedy and warmth you remember.
It's still a story, basically, about two kids trying to capture and then keep a white horse once they have him. (This was the one in the apartment!). We go all over the Irish countryside as everyone, good and bad, try to find the boys and the horse. In between, their father slowly comes to grips with the death of his wife some seven years earlier, a tragedy he has never been able to deal with correctly.
The best character and the most fun to watch is little "Ossie," played by Ciaran Fitzgerald. He's the one most-attached to the horse and the wee one has some of the best lines in the film.
Movie Review: Great Movie, But Rather Violent Summary: 4 Stars
I and my children loved this movie, however I'd like to caution parents who have smaller/sensitive/impressionable children. The movie has quite a few violent spots and the "authority figures" display a LOT of bigotry. The bigotry the police have towards the gypsies is prevalent throughout the entire movie and there are some spots where they brutalize the children's father as well as the horse. If your children are sensitive towards animal suffering or physical violence, you might want to view the movie by yourself first and then make sure you sit with them or skip those parts.
Overall, great movie -- just take care with the viewing.
Movie Review: Horses, Magick, and a Little Blarney Summary: 4 Stars
Widower Papa Riley (Gabriel Byrne), once an important member of a nomadic tribe of travelers, now lives in the slums of Dublin with his two young lads, Ossie (Ciaran Fitzgerald) and Tito (Ruaidhrf Conroy), drinking himself to death. Their lowly lives take a wild turn when Grandpa Ward (David Kelly) brings them a magnificent (and possibly magical) white horse called Tir na Nog, but when the horse is taken away by the police, the family sets off across the old Emerald Isle to get him back. A great, stirring story for kids and adults.

Movie Review: Into the West Summary: 4 Stars
The story is about two boys who find a magical horse and how the adventure unfolds as they try to return the horse to the sea (as folk lore has it).
A movie for the whole family to enjoy. Two brothers help each other on this quest of saving the horse. The adventures and mishaps makes for strong bonds as they head for the coast. It is also a story of how their father rediscovers his heritage and saves his sons.
Movie Review: "Into the West" Summary: 4 Stars
This is an absolute delight.I could not imagine anyone not liking this movie. Only the Irish can make movies like this.
Two beautiful kids, a great horse, Gabriel Byrne at his best and a mystical fairy story atmosphere to go along with. This is a beautiful movie.
