Movie Reviews of Inherit the WindMovie Review: An underrated classic Summary: 5 Stars
Historical inaccuracies aside, "Inherit The Wind" is a classic film which is often overlooked in movie history. With an incredible (and Oscar-nominated) script, as well as some of the finest performances ever given by actors, this film is truly one of the greats of all time. But AFI's "100 Greatest Movie" list (as well as countless others) doesn't acknowledge it (or any Kramer film, if I'm not mistaken). Regardless, this is a gem of a movie. (And thank God it was given DVD treatment... the VHS was ancient and hard to come by).
Movie Review: The Greatest Film I have Ever Seen Summary: 5 Stars
This is the greatest film to me. I love and adore this film. The story of Brady vs. Drummond battling in a court room for Bert. Bert taught teaches school students about Darwin's Theory of Evolution, and soon the ignorant religious town goes all out on him. Brady tries to defend the towns rights against Drummond who supports Bert. Once you see this film you will see that the symbolism of the justice statue outside of the courthouse truly symbolizes the blindness of the town toward Darwin's Theory of Evolution.
Movie Review: Inherit the Wind Summary: 5 Stars
Stanley Kramer's spellbinding film features a deft performance by Tracy as the rumpled, deceptively plain-spoken Drummond (modeled on Clarence Darrow), matched by March's larger than life, virtuoso turn as Matthew Brady (based on William Jennings Bryan). Just sit back, pretend you're sitting in that humid courtroom, and watch two old pros at work. You'll re-live history. Also look for Gene Kelly in one of his only serious, non-dancing roles as a cynical journalist based on H.L. Mencken.
Movie Review: Inherit the Wind Summary: 5 Stars
Any spencer Tracy movie is worth owning! He certainly gives a powerful performance as the defense attorney in this show. The balck-and-white adds so much. Frederick March is somewhat bombastic, but that's the nature of his character. He also provides a powerful counterpoint to Spencer Tracy! My first impression was William ennings Bryan (as the prosecutor) and Clarence Darrow (as the defense attorney). A Powerful and haunting story that still has relevance today!
Movie Review: Inherit the Wind (1960) 47+ years and still relevent!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a movie about the dispute between creationism and evolution and the legal ramifications of this moral delima (teaching evolution in a town that make evangelicals look like hippies). Look for Spencer Tracy (Drummond), Frederick March (Brady), Harry Morgan as the Judge, and Gene Kelly in a rare dramatic role as a trial reporter! Also for an interesting side note, this was the first in-flight movie EVER!!! Based on a play.
