Movie Reviews of In the Mouth of Madness

Movie Review: The sane and insane could easily switch places.....
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a freaky movie! It's about this writer Sutter Cane who writes books that are like a disease and people go insane after reading them. Soon, so many have read them that those who do not read Sutter Cane books become the insane ones. John Trent is sent to investigate Sutter Cane's disappearance and soon finds his own reality and sanity slipping away. This movie is way too crazy to even explain it or attempt to write a spoiler. It's just something you have to see. It's part horror, part psycological thriller and a disturbing ride beginning to end. It has some gore but not too much, great suspense but is mostly a 'smart' type of movie delving into the darkness that exists in all humans. It has very creepy undertones and is anything but predictable! It's the type of movie you have to watch more than once to notice all the subtle details.

Movie Review: Great scary movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really liked this movie, it was very intense. My heart was pumping like crazy from start to finnish. I don't think i've seen a more scary movie; although i am new to the horror genre. My brother recommended this movie to me, so i went out and bought it for him, then one for me. I took it home, and i think it may be one of my favorites. It had a very dark atmosphere in the movie, and Sam Neill has to be one of the best horror movie actors out there, his presents in this movie is very erie.

My paragraph so far is a little dodgy, but that's because i dont want to give anything away.

Sam Niell in this movie plays a sceptical insurrance guy trying to find this author that disappeared. He plays being the sceptic very very well. There always has to be a good explaination for the stuff that is happening to people.

Movie Review: Postmodern meets H.P. Lovecraft
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definately not your typical horror movie. Based on the work of horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, John Carpenter's rendtion of In the Mouth of Madness is a mindbending experience that tests the limits of the imagination. The plot centers around a missing horror write by the name of Sutter Kane, and John Trent, an insurance investigator sent to find him. In the course of investigation Trent finds that the line between truth and fiction may not be as easy to separte as it appears. In the mouth of Madness is filled with stunning twists, surrealistic imagery, and psychological terror. asides from being a great horror movie, it is also a thought provoking lesson in postmodern horror. This is an inventive and highly original movie, one that will surprise and frighten all the way to the final curtain.

Movie Review: Great Horror
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie really grasps at what's truly scary to most people: the fear that you are wrong. This whole story questions everything this one man thinks he knows and then in the end tells him he is wrong.
The movie has some violence, but it isn't gorry or graphic to any extreme. There are a few moments of "jumpy" horror, but most of it is more intellectual or at least ideas that are frightening. This may sound stupid to some, but I think its a much more frightening horror because it stays with you and you tend to think about it more than just something jumping out in front of you which you can blow off after you've seen the movie.
This movie stays with you and can even make you think about your very of existence if you watch it late at night when you're really tired and have drank too much.

Movie Review: An Excellent Ride
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this movie when it came out on video and I must say that it was one of the most original and downright scary movies I'd seen in a long time. As a longtime horror fan I was appreciative of the lack of "comedy" that most current horror movies seem to have teeming from them, granted there are a few clever lines here and there but it pretty much sticks to the formula (such as it is) and creates an experience that really plays with the viewers head. I've since seen the movie over 10 times and each time see something I hadn't seen before. An overall excellent movie and a must for all horror officiando's, by the way I loved the ending, regardless of what anyone says. Sam Neill does an amazing job as John Trent and all of the supporting cast do a great job as well. An all time fav.
