Movie Reviews of Imagine Me & You

Movie Review: Great movie with a few flaws
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is refreshing as a sweet lesbian love story. I was impressed with the quality of the film. How rare is it to find a lesbian or gay movie without drug use, promiscuity, pointless graphic sex or a host of other trashy things thrown in? Very rare in my experience. Unlike most in the genre, this movie is good CLEAN fun. Instead of focusing on sex, the film is centered around the feelings developing between the two female characters. This movie was unfairly rated R, apparently because two women falling in love and kissing (but never doing any more than that) is so very "dirty". After all, it would be a shame if anyone under 17 could watch a sweet movie about two women falling in love. The one truly irritating part of this movie is a straight male "friend" who likes to run off at the mouth endlessly spewing crude and vulgar things. This pig is the only thing that warrants concern when considering showing this film to younger viewers, but would never be rated R on its own. I've seen worse language and sexual references in PG-13 movies. Aside from this one loser, the movie is a joy to watch. I'm just disappointed with the homophobia and ignorance that contributed to the R rating. Young people could use more positive images of gay and lesbian characters like the ones we see in this movie.

Movie Review: what? they're gay?
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie when it came out and fell in love with it.

It doesn't try to overwhelm you with a liberal agenda of some sort. (Becoming a lesbian doesn't inherently make you liberal, although, in my world, it would.)

It doesn't revolve the story around a lusty sex scene. (I enjoy them, but there's something to be said for the romantic simplicity of the kiss.)

It doesn't try to squeeze in every single member of the lgbtiq community like we're an amusing freak show. (With some movies, I find myself yelling, "It's a gay movie, I get it!")

...This movie simply tries to tell the story of two girls in love, nothing else. It does it in a quirky, Notting-Hill type of way and that makes it all the better. At least for people like myself, who are sick of imagining Harry, of When Harry Met Sally, as a curly-haired butch.

By being so formulaic and true to the romantic comedy genre, this movie becomes radical. You WANT Rachel to follow her heart and get her mate, who just happens to be another woman. It doesn't even dawn on you that what you're cheering for is lesbianism--why is this such a dividing issue again?

Movie Review: Loved the movie and the ending!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoyed this movie a lot because I am a huge Piper Perabo fan and it is a good story. It took a little getting used to the British accent she had to have for this role but I got used to it by the end. Normally it doesn't sound very well; US to British and the reverse but this time it was fine. I thought it was funny when the husband's friend is set up with the florist and has no idea he has no chance from the start and predicts that they will "fall madly into bed" by the end of the night! I liked the happy ending, which reminded me so much of the ending of "The Graduate" where Dustin Hoffman is at the church and bangs on the glass to get the attention of the woman he loved. I am so glad to see that Ms. Perabo's character didn't die in this one, as I've seen that happen at least twice so far. It has a much happier ending than the movie that first brought her to my attention, "Lost & Delirious" (see my review). That one had me in tears and bummed out, and I NEVER get upset at movies! In conclusion, watch this movie if you want some laughs and validation. I did and I bought it on the same trip that I returned the DVD to the movie store!

Movie Review: Great romantic comedy.
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the previews for this movie when I saw 'Brokeback Mountain' and was waiting impatiently for it to come to my city. Many 'gay movies' aren't that good. I was happy that this one is.

Well-acted, all the characters were believable and likable. Anthony Stewart Head as Piper Pearbo's dad is a hoot! A fun escape movie with a little sadness, and yet a happy ending for all.

Piper Pearbo plays a woman who, at her wedding is immediately drawn to a woman who turns out to be the florist. Both she and her new husband take to this stranger and they develop a friendship. When it turns out that the florist is a lesbian, the bride is eventually forced to take a look at the nature of the draw she feels towards this woman. However, neither woman wants to hurt her husband, a good and caring man. How it all works out is funny, touching, and sad at turns.

I'd compare this movie most to something like Reese Witherspoon's "Sweet Home Alabama". If you liked that movie and you can celebrate love in all its forms, then I believe you'll enjoy "Imagine Me & You".

Movie Review: Happy together
Summary: 5 Stars

"Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together"
(The Turtles)

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Boy marries girl
2. Girl sees girl across the crowded room
3. Girl finds reasons to keep seeing girl
4. Delightful romantic comedy follows with great music and energetic dance sequence via Dance Dance Revolution
5. ... and everyone lives happily, even though not necessarily together

Piper Perabo and Lena Headey are the shining stars of this British romantic comedy, which leaves you with both a good feeling and a catchy song which you won't be able to stop singing for weeks after seeing the movie.

Recommended for anyone who believes in love at first sight, and those who take a little longer.
