This is a very heart-felt romantic movie that shows a slice of life in Italy. It is good for those learning Italian because the plot is easy to follow and direct. The ending was quite a shock and was unexpected. You will hear a dash of Spanish about ¾ of the way into the film due to the fact that one of the actors is from Chile. The Spanish is not subtitled since the whole movie is in Italian with English subtitles.Movie Review: Much more than it first appears.

I like films that offer more than just a story. Il Postino can be enjoyed on a number of levels. It's about opening up to beauty, and appreciating it. A simple man 1) wins the heart of a beautiful woman, 2) develops a love for the beauty in poetry, 3) discovers the natural beauty of his island, 4) becomes a wiser and more perceptive person. Shows how beautiful and peaceful Italy is. Beautiful beaches, not for swimming but for looking out and just relaxing, getting inspired. The place is poetic.
The story has depth. When I'm studying and practicing my Italian, I will definitely be watching this over and over to study the language.
