Movie Reviews of Ike - Countdown to D-Day

Movie Review: AN ABSORBING LOOK AT THE ROLE OF MILITARY LEADERSHIP IN WAR, AND A STUNNING PORTRAYAL BY TOM SELLECK
Summary: 5 Stars

Tom Selleck shows extraordinary depth and subtlety in this examination of military leadership and the costs of excercising it- both in terms of casualties and in terms of personal self-criticism and doubt, and the demons that haunt one who must order other men to their deaths. Eisenhower is largely a stranger to the last couple of generations of Americans- a name that appears on the list of Presidents, but a name almost as obscure as Millard Fillmore to the young. I wish more people- and especially young people- could've seen this masterful portrayal of leadership, patriotism and sacrifice. I was pleasantly and completely surprised by the quality of this film, and I give it my highest recommendation.

Movie Review: Eisenhauer would be proud.....
Summary: 5 Stars

Told from the point of view of Ike, which becomes obvious at the end. The cast of this piece of history retold, is absolutely a wonderful and compelling portrait of the men whose responsibility was the taking back of europe from the clutches of a madman. And the one man whose task it was to make sure that it happened....IKE! Tom Selleck as General Dwight David Eisenhauer, Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Forces, European Theatre of Operations...does an outstanding job of making this story come alive. All with the assist of a great supporting cast!
There is only one word that describes this motion picture....
OUTSTANDING!!!!

Movie Review: Ike
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this film and its story of an ordinary man, rising to such heights to overcome in difficult times.

I found Tom Selleck to be on the mark and at the top of his craft in bringing forth a portrayal of the personal Eisenhower.

The use of collage stills to set the scene was extremely well done. The special features, including commentary and interview are informing and splendid.

I definitely give it a thumbs up.

Movie Review: One of the best war picture ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a big WWII movie fan and I have seen them all many times. I love this movie. It is one of the best and I can watch it over and over. It captures the intense decision making and planning going on with all the key command characters before D-Day. It's attention to realism and detail is excellent. Tom Selleck is superb as is the rest of the cast. I wish they could make many more of these, taking us past D-Day to the end of the war.

Movie Review: Great movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie shows the process of taking one of the most important decisions in WWII, which determined the beginning of the end.
It is remarkable that this movie can condense so much information in 90 minutes of run time: political affairs among the allies, war stress, historical background, etc.
Tom Selleck's performance of Gen. Eisenhower is definitely outstanding.
