Movie Reviews of Iceman

Movie Review: Great movie, disappointing DVD
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out - I was sent to see it for an Anthropology class and then returned two more times to see it again because it was so good. A wonderful film, touching and well acted by the main characters. I've remembered it for 20 years.

It's hard to believe, though, that it's not being issued in widescreen. What is this, converted from the VHS? I don't care if there aren't extras, but widescreen is sort of basic these days, don't you think?

Movie Review: Finally, Iceman Thaws Out on DVD
Summary: 4 Stars

One of the most overlooked movies from the 80s, this thriller starred Timothy Hutton and is a real good study in human nature. Hidden in a block of ice for centuries a caveman is thawed out and introduced to the real modern world. Treated more as an artifact and not a human makes this a sad commentary on society, what defines a human being, and the greed of the powers that be. Sometimes knowledge is deadly. A great film that should not be missed.

Movie Review: This is a Pan and Scan Version
Summary: 4 Stars

Though an excellent film, the release only in a reduced-screen, pan and scan, version is abominable.
I want what any good film collector wants: the release of this fine film in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio.
When will the movie producers realize that people who buy DVD films are collectors and don't want to see the films in the "edited" 1.33:1 versions?

Movie Review: Iceman BBC1 15/4/03
Summary: 4 Stars

Very enjoyable film, I have a degree in bioarchaeology and have spent many years studying the nature of neanderthals and found this film to be a keen and compassionate work lacking in the shmaltz that hollywood generally pumps out.

Movie Review: Widescreen Please
Summary: 4 Stars

As all the others have stated before, PLease re release this film in a respectible Widescreen format for us to enjoy.
