After reading some of the professional reviews and user reviews here, I am, frankly, shocked. This was a wonderfully entertaining movie that was very well done technically. The Blu-Ray presentation is fantastic. Unlike many others, I wasn't comparing it to what Asimov wrote, mainly because I am unfamiliar with his works. But in any case that's a pointless exercise and I reject movie reviews that are hung up in comparing written works to film.
The question here should be strictly this: Did I like this film as a stand-alone work? Yes. Was it well made? Yes. Were the actors good in their roles? Yes. And, yes, I like Will Smith. No, he's not Richard Burton, but who better to cast in a film where robots have been unquestioningly integrated into a futuristic urban society than a hip, throwback, wise-cracking black guy from Philly? I also think Bridget Moynahan did a very nice job.
So, the film is technically very good, the plot interesting, and the actors quite competent in their roles. If you want to see something deep and intellectually stimulating, look elsewhere. If you simply want to have fun and be entertained, watch 'I, Robot'.
Movie Review: Not for Asimov fans

I thought this movie was great. If you're one of those people who always expects a movie to hold up to the book, add this to your long line of disappointments. If, however, you like a fun Saturday afternoon sci-fi, with lots of action, and a good mystery, then give this a shot. People who expect movies to live up to the book are living in a self-perpetuating paradigm of disappointment. If you enjoyed Independence Day (for Will Smith) and Virtuosity (for the subject matter), then you'll like this one. It's better than either one of those too.
See them as movies that are inspired by a story, not a translation. I love books, I love movies. I engage one or the other for different types of immersion.
I was picking through here to try and find out how good the transfer was to Blu-ray, and all the negative reviews are on the movie, not the transfer; so I thought I'd put in my $.02.

I actually wanted to give this movie only 3 stars but i'll give the Blu Ray 4 stars. This movie looks incredible in high definition. Most people have already seen this movie a million times. I would still go out and buy this one on blu ray. It is one of the best movies i have seen in the blu ray format. I will admit it is not one of my favorite movies. It's basically just Will Smith running around beating up robots. The story could have been a lot better. However, this is a movie everyone should own on blu-ray. Picture: 5/5 (SUPERB!!) - good collection to show off the true HD pics
Sound: 5/5 (Superb) - sound quality cant be denied with right setting of audio you can even compete with sound from movie theatre
Extra: 1/5 (this is why i gave 4 star) not much additional footage inserted this is basically all the same content u saw from ur old dvd except it has much more better upgrade in other aspects
overall u gotta buy this product if u love the movie since it will make a new better experience, fun movie.
