Movie Reviews of I Know I'm Not AloneMovie Review: Focuses on the humanity of the region Summary: 5 Stars
Michael Franti is the rare performer/activist who walks the walk... in bare feet, none the less! This low buget documentary focuses not on the political situation in Iraq or in Israel/Palestine, but on the people who are suffering, and whose lives are turned upside-down. Franti speaks and interacts with Israelis, Palestininans and Iraqis as humans, rather than the media labes of "militiants" or "insurgents".
Buy this and play it for as many people as possible. Then when you're done, go see him in concert. Contrary to the somber mood of the movie, his performances are spirited and inspiring events!
Movie Review: A different look at the middle east Summary: 5 Stars
Franti shows us a side of the middle east that's rarely seen in the US media and other docs about the war...he shows the people struggling to survive by living their lives in war torn Baghdad and Palestine. Franti connects with every day people through his music. Although his 'Habibi' song gets old, he seems to bring a smile to folks that have very little to smile about.
Watching this film reinforces the notion that war is senseless...it's unfortunate that those that start wars would never watch a film like this one. If they did, maybe, just maybe, they'd lose a little bit of sleep at night.
Movie Review: Outstanding documentary from one of the greatest musicians and poets on the planet Summary: 5 Stars
I am a HUGE Michael Franti fan - I first saw him on the Reggae on the River dvd (another fantastic selection, by the way), and I've been hooked ever since. This is an artist who not only talks the talk but who walks the walk as well. His "Yell Fire" album is based on this trip to Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel/Palestine, and it is a powerful and emotional piece of work that will stand the test of time. This is an absolute must have; if you're even considering buying this (or anything else from Michael Franti), then I would suggest you just DO IT.
Movie Review: Bittersweet Summary: 5 Stars
This film was so heartfelt, told by the people who live in Palestine, Bagdad and Israel....how it feels to live in an occupied state - the poverty, the fear, violence and heartbreak - moving in the sense that in the midst of all the chaos, humanity and joy somehow prevails...with Franti's music as a backdrop. On a further note, the true social irresponsibility falls on the shoulders of our right wing media and the lies we're sold on the television every night. Michael Franti is not afraid to show us a glimpse of the truth.
Movie Review: ME two! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie should be seen by anyone about to join the military and go to war or participate in any occupation. Michael Franti wonders what one says to one's children the evening before a bombing campaign, and goes in search of musicians, poets, writers and others in Iraq who plead with America not to bomb their country and to stop the fighting and occupation. We first viewed this on LinkTV with an interview with Michael Franti himself and it's nice to know we're not alone.
