Movie Reviews of I ConfessMovie Review: Power of the Priest Summary: 5 Stars
Many directors have one forte, for Hitchcock it was suspense. But the difference between Hitchcock and other directors is he could used his forte in various genres. His best films tend to be what I call the Wrong Man films. These films take a innocent man and puts him between the good guys and the bad guys.
In I Confess, a man is killed. The killer confesses to the local priest (Montgomery Clift). The priest goes to the murder scene and is seen by a witness. It turns out that the priest has his own past with the murder victim.
The police are able to build a case against the priest and arrest him. He is tried and cannot reveal the real killer. When he is convicted, the truth comes out with a typical Hitchcock ending.
There have been movies about a priest knowing a killer but cannot reveal it. But in typical Hitchcock fashion, this takes it one step further. Will the priest reveal the truth, will the true killer confess to save the priest or will it be someone else?
This is a taught drama that should not be missed.

Movie Review: Great movie Summary: 5 Stars
Great and deep movie, beautifully photographed. Great cast. Good job from Montgomery Cliff.
Of course, to me the star of the movie is Quebec City. I lived in Old Quebec for years, so it's quite a treat to see
the city so beautifully photographed. And see the actors walking on streets i know. And, yes, there is still a lot of one-way streets in the Old town.
At least one of the french-canadian actors playing bit parts in I Confess is still working in televison today ! And one of the witness little girls ( #2 ) was an anchorwoman on state television in the 80's.
Movie Review: "I CONFESS" IS AN UNDER RATED CLASSIC. Summary: 5 Stars
THE VILLAIN IS REMORESFUL AND ALTERNATINGLY EVIL. THE PRIEST IS A VICTIM OF THE CONFESSIONAL.
TO REMAIN THE TRUE PRIEST THAT HE IS,HE MUST KEEP THE VOW OF SILENCE. EVEN THOUGH HE IS BLAMED
FOR A MURDER HE DID NOT COMMIT. THE LOOK ON MONGOMERY CLIFT'S FACE SAYS IT ALL. KARL MALDEN,
ANNE BAXTER AND THE REST OF THE CAST ARE EXCELLENT. THE ON LOCATION SCENES OF QUEBEC ARE
A BIG,BIG BONUS TO THIS MOVIE. OTHER SPECIAL FEATURES (INTERVIEWS ETC.) ARE INCLUDED IN THIS
WORTH THE PRICE DVD.
Movie Review: The 2004 Warner Home Video DVD of this movie. Summary: 5 Stars
As others, aplenty, have already provided details, and their opinions, about the movie "I Confess," I will just give my opinion of the 2004 Warner Home Video DVD release of the movie.
I find the picture and sound quality to be superb. To my tastes and liking, the "Making of" featurette is interesting. I feel comfortable giving this DVD release a full 5-star recommendation.
Movie Review: Primer in Catholicism Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent movie for non-Catholics who want to learn how important the seal of the Confessional is. It is also an excellent movie for Catholics who need to be reassured that they can tell any sin to a priest and their privacy will be respected. Excellent movie for gossip mongers who need to learn to curb their tongues.
