Movie Reviews of House of Wax

Movie Review: Arguably the best 3-D movie--ever! (Even without 3D)
Summary: 5 Stars

The fact that this is one of the few 3-D movies that plays just as well WITHOUT 3-D, says something. A great, grisly story (based upon the 1933 "Mystery of the Wax Museum" which is found, coincidentally, on the other side of this DVD), and a magnificently oily performance by Vincent Price make this a great ride. Andre de Toth, the director, was blind in one eye, so was probably not interested in doing a lot of 3D gimmick shots. In fact, the only scene that really gives away the film's 3D heritage is the paddle-ball sequence at the beginning of Act Two. Rumor has it that Warner Bros. is considering a digital 3D re-release of "House of Wax" for Halloween 2008. I've got my glasses ready!!

Movie Review: It's A Good Ride!
Summary: 5 Stars

I actually bought this dvd for the original version for whom "House of Wax" is based. "Terror At The Wax Museum" was a fun find, and tho at times annoying with the editing (not anyone's fault since the film was from the early 30's). I am pleased that "House Of Wax" used about 60% of the original film version, as i understand where some of the humor came from. For the remake, what can i say? Vincent Price's performance is so relaxed and focused that at times you tend to believe that he IS the character. The quality of both films are superb. The added extras didn't grab me as much as i would have hoped, but i am still pleased with the films.

Movie Review: Horrible Memories from the Past
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, what a great flashback! I saw this movie as a 6-year old in it's original theater release 3D format. It terrified me then and to this day I still avoid open-cage styled elevators. It also instilled in me an appreciation for well constructed horror films. I had a copy of the VHS release and I must say this DVD version is an order of magnitude better in terms of sharpness of image, color tracking and, perhaps best of all, the quality of the Warner Brothers Studio lush soundtrack. If you're a fan of the golden era of horror then this DVD is a must have!

Movie Review: House of Wax (1953)-Vincent Price Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw House of Wax when it was released in 1953. This was my first shocker at age 7 when my mom took me to see it at the old LUXOR theater in the Bronx. I really don't think my mother knew what we were getting into but she asked me if I wanted to leave once it got rolling. I told her I liked it and I did. I have seen it many times since and feel it is one of Vincent Price's better performances and overall a fine example of classic horror. In my opinion the remake is not worthy of being spoken about in the same breath.

Movie Review: just a good old fashioned horror flick
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved it,this is what good old fashioned horror films is all about.Vincent Price is as usual at his best, the more unusual the storyline the better he is.

Of course Hollywood remade it recently, making it a vehicle for the people who were in it rather than trying to make a good movie. So my advice to any one who has seen the recent one and hated it,is that film starred Paris Hilton, this one stars Vincent Price. That says it all, come into this movie with an open mind and believe me you will not be dissapointed.
