Movie Reviews of House of Wax [Blu-ray]Movie Review: Excellent Blu-Ray Transfer! A Decent Horror Flick! Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, this plot has been done before, (like so many horror films of today)but it still manages to have some fun and provide some good moments of suspense and fright!
Paris Hilton is not the main star of this, and her scenes are pretty minimal compared to the entire film, (she actually does a decent job considering her limited acting experience.)
This is actually a film you'll enjoy, unless you are very picky about what you choose to watch, and/or are not into horror films.
As to the Blu-Ray transfer, its VERY good. A really nice transfer and scenes are pretty stunning to watch at times, the melting wax at the end is particularly good, but pretty much everything is good in this transfer!
Movie Review: House of Wax Blu-Ray Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed this movie, kind of a guilty pleasure. The story is decent, the suspense is good, the acting is pretty good considering Paris Hilton is in it. It's not the scariest movie you have ever seen but its a very well made horror flick. I was very pleased to see that the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray went well. The movie looks great in High Def.
Movie Review: Local artist looking for models to pose for museum project. Summary: 4 Stars
Hollywood slasher movies are not all 'cut-out' to be the same! This one had great special effects. I for one, didn't mind seeing Paris Hilton get hers! She did prove to me that she MIGHT be able to do SOME acting - with a little work! But, alas the movie wasn't really about her! It was about a group of teenagers who get lost (hmmm?) and happen upon a small town in the middle of nowhere who's residents are all made of wax. One by one, they all go missing; and soon turn up as part of the exibit!
The artist had started out in his earlier life working the family 'taxidermy' business, but he just couldn't get the eyes just right. They weren't quite 'lifelike'. We all know that 'practice makes perfect' so our main character must work at his trade, trying some 'new techniques'. Indeed he takes pride in work, in fact he surrounds himself in it! I don't want to give it all way, so you gotta see for yourself. It's raunchy, clever, sexy, fun and oh . . . GROSS! All of the best stuff one needs to enjoy a cold winter eve, curled up with someone they love! Enjoy!
Movie Review: A very good thriller horror movie! Summary: 4 Stars
House of Wax starts off like some up-dated friday the thirteenth movie where the drinking, sex cravin teenagers will get whats comming to them for their sinfull acts of degredation. But it morfs into a very good thriller horror movie with some very creepy characters. The acting is quite good except for Paris Hilton naturally. She stays with what she knows best... a little strip tease dance. (***Spoiler Alert!*** Paris does get hers in the one place you can not actually do any damage to. The difference would be for all intents and purposes, completely neglegable.) PQ is very good. Shot in many dark scenes, blacks are solid without grain and colors are superior. Sound is detailed and very dynamic when things heat up! A 4.5 star rating on both Sound and Picture quality. There are a couple surprisingly, intelligent and symbolic shots twards the end of the movie. See if you can pick them out. House of Wax was a very pleasent surprise in that it was much better than expected. A very good horror thriller! Highly recommended on BD!
Movie Review: One of the better films of my generation Summary: 4 Stars
Unfortunately, my youth is corrupted by stupid horror films such as 'Saw' and the remakes like 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)', but there were some goods as well. I liked the remake of Dawn of the Dead, House of 1,000 Corpses and some other movies from the earlier 2000's, may of them remind me of middle school and early high school, but one of my faves was House of Wax. I saw it one night and fell in love with it. It's creepy and it's actually a pretty good new look at an amazing 50's classic. The cast included some decent actors (please note Paris Hilton does actually deliver an almost convincing role for the first time ever) playing...herself more or less...and the atmosphere and suspense were solid. Definitely one of the best horror movies of the 2000's, which of course, isn't really saying all that much...because the 70's and 80's were much more effective with horror flicks. A good film though :)
