Movie Reviews of House of Wax [Blu-ray]Movie Review: House Of Wax (2005) Summary: 5 Stars
First thoughts...This was a very nice horror movie. It's gruesome, has very nice acting, and a good script and directing job. Also, it has an interesting story and amazing special effects. Here's the breakdown.
1. Directing--Very nicely done from Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan). The film has an overall creepy and tense atmosphere throughout. Good job!
2. Script--Again, nicely written from Chad and Carey Hayes. Nice dialogue throughout from all the characters and it is a very interesting and unique story with a very nice ending.
3. Acting--Amazing job from the entire cast. Most notable are Elisha Cuthbert and Brian Van Holt.
Now for the content review.
Rated R for horror violence, some sexual content and language
1. Sex/Nudity=0/10. This is the part I don't understand. The rating states "some sexual content" but there is nothing of the sort in the movie. Confused me on that part.
2. Violence/Gore=10/10. This movie is very gruesome. You get some pretty gory scenes such as the cutting of an Achille's tendon, a decapitation, a impalment through the head, a beating with a baseball bat, and a man getting turned into a wax statue and his flesh getting burned off. It's not as bad on violence as other horror movies nowadays, but it is still worthy of a 10/10.
3. Language=6/10. Another surprising element. Most modern-day horror movies have a lot of bad language. This however did not have that much. There were 6 F-words and other profanities.
Final Thoughts...Overall--5/5. This is an awesome horror movie and it boasts good acting and amazing special effects. It had a good directing job and a unique storyline. Reccommended to horror fans.
