Movie Review: The Worst Film Ever. And 5 Stars

OK, this will just be a rather short review because I'm not an "expert" on the subject. I'm sure there are more qualified critics out there who might complain that it is derivative from this move, derivative from that movie, that the acting isn't the best, etc., etc. Who cares? It is the movie Rob Zombie probably wanted to make all his life. And if you are at all familiar with his music and/or "artwork" you'd understand that this movie has probably been brewing in his sick mind all his life. While watching it in my mind I would exclaim "This is the best movie I've ever seen in my life".

I can only hope that one day and hopefully not too late, that the powers that be realize his evil genius and give him a big budget to do another movie, now that he's gotten all this out of his system.

It's genius in that it takes place during the 1970s. Do what you know, that a good rule to follow, and that's when Rob Z. was a kid and was influenced by all these grade B horror flicks. That's when the best schlock was made, and the worst, and all the ones that came before were on the late night TV because there weren't a thousand TV channels and that's all they had to play late at night.

The plot of the movie? Secondary. The lack of digital effects to impart a sense of realism to the gore? Unnecessary. The lack Oscar nominate-able acting? Hardly matters. It's the overall camp of the mood, the ridiculousness and cliché of the characters. The holes in the plot? Oh, you're taking this much too seriously. The movies only fault is that, if Rob Z. intended it to be scary -- it's not. But that's it.

Rob Z.'s style is his own even though it is influenced by countless others. Rob Zombie's time will come, and when it does "they" will realize what a work of genius this movie is. I can't wait until his next feature. I'll be first in line.

Movie Review: Zombie Delivers
Summary: 5 Stars

I went into this movie expecting to see a fun-filled throwback to the classic drive-in slasher movies of the 70's and that is exactly what i got. This movie was awesome. Unwanted by two major studios, Lion's Gate gave Rob Zombie the chance of a lifetime. He wasn't trying to make the most amazing horor film of all time, he was trying to pay tribute to classics such as: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left, and The Hills Have Eyes. Taking a classic plot: a group of kids is stranded in the middle of nowhere, onlt to be terrorized and brutalized by the family from hell, he twists it into a fun-filled nightmare. The family in this movie is one of the funiest and most terrifying families you will ever see on film. This family lures unsuspecting passers-by with the youngest member of the family (played by Zombie's real life girlfriend) and then proceeds to torture, eviscerate, sodomize and do just about everything you can to someone. The actors delivered as well. Sid Haig is hilarious as the foul-mouthed Captain Spaulding. The acting is corny, as well as it should be. Some might get bored after the hilarious opening scene. The first two thirds of the movie introduce the characters and the disgusting family. The final one third of the movie is a terrifying nightmare that morphs from a gore-filled slasher film to a science fiction acid trip. The ending might make some mad, but I found it fitting to the whole plot. I had heard a lot of hype saying how violent this film was. It is to a point. I am a gore hound so I din't find this as violent as Dead Alive or Cannibal Ferox(One of the sickest movies of all time) and the r rating takes a good chunk of the film away from the viewer. I can't wait for an unrated director's cut to be released

Movie Review: 4 1/2 STARS, SHERRI MOON provided most of the entertainment
Summary: 5 Stars

Sherri Moon's character 'Baby' was great. She was very unique, charming, happy and sadistic. All her scenes were very entertaining. She is very talented.
Bill Mosley's character Otis, is a David Koresh-type cult leader of the family: evil and interesting and probably a condemned soul.

The movie has four teenagers who's car tire is blow out on October 30-Halloween eve, staying at the sick-o family house while there car gets fixed, they enquire about Dr. Satan while eating dinner, then being entertained. When they leave they get taken hostage.

Some are cut-up, and the others are saved to be "sacficed" on Halloween night.

The best horror scene was with Sherri Moon's character when she "gives it to Mary", the rest of the "horor" scenes in the underground cave on the Halloween night sacrifice could have been better and more suspenseful and scary. The could have done something completely different.

This is by for the best horror film I've seen probably ever. It is the most entertaining, thanks to Sherri Moon's many different scenes:
"I thought you were all about team spirit, you've done {____} to cheer me up since you've been here" she said to the mutilated and bound cheerleader
"I' going to ask you one question, if you get it right I'll let you go, if you get it wrong--YOU'RE {______}"
She's happily trotting along like she in a wedding procession as they're carrying a body to be a burnt sacrifice
Plus many other scenes.

Jennifer Jostyn (Mary) is also very beautiful, attractive and charming. Billy Mosley gets to kiss her in this movie (I wish I could).
The movie does lack suspense, scare and shock value, but it is very enjoyable and entertaining.

Movie Review: Great directorial debut for Rob Zombie
Summary: 5 Stars

I was really taken off-guard by this energetic and original movie!

When we "meet the meat," as Lyz Kingsley would say, the two guys actually have personalities and become characters with at least some depth. As per usual, the girls get shortchanged in this category. And then we meet the crazy Spaulding family. Even though they're psychos, each of them gets at least some degree of personality and character as well. As a result, "House of 1000 Corpses" is much more interesting than the run-of-the-mill horror film. You may think you know where this movie is going once you're 30 minutes into it, but trust me, you don't, and I'm not going to ruin the ending for you.

There are some funny, funny moments in the movie, which come directly out of the characters. Refreshingly, the horror and the comedy don't get mixed. Zombie pulls no punches in the horror department, and doesn't cheat by cutting away in the conventional places. The Spauldings don't issue cheap one-liners after some mayhem. The juxtaposition of short moments of horror between other scenes having different tones keeps you off balance and makes the horror more effective.

As for the DVD itself, it is loaded with special features, and has the funniest menus you will ever see. Each menu features a different character talking to (or berating) you, the viewer. When you first insert the disc, Captain Spaulding will abuse you for minutes on end. And it's funny! You'll wait 10 minutes before you press play just to listen to him.

This disc is worth at least a rent. Now I can't wait to see "The Devil's Rejects"!

Movie Review: Cavet Emptor - Wimps & Sissys Beware
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't normally write reviews on anything for websites, but the mis-informed comments of blackwolf71 screamed (no pun intended) for someone....ANYONE to come to a more direct defense of this brilliant (and unfortunatly over-edited) piece of celluloid. First lets make one thing clear, by definition THIS IS NOT A HORROR MOVIE!! If you came into this hoping for a cute little weak a** teenie horror picture, you are sorely mistaken. This is a member of the much under-appreciated sub-genre of Splatter films. Those nasty little diddys that usually make no real attempt to scare, but to make you feel uncomfortable and sickened, so in that respect, it accomplished just that for said reviewer. Unfortunatly, this was not the type of film that said reviewer was looking for, but for those of us who enjoy squirming in our seats, all I can say is THE SECOND COMING OF SPLATTER HAS ARRIVED!!......and not a moment too soon. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, this movie is clearly not for everyone. If the names Fulci, Hooper, Argento, Romero, & Lewis are not names you're familiar with, or you've never seen such "Video Nasties" as "I Spit On Your Grave", "Deranged", "Maniac", & "Last House On The Left", maybe you ought to sit this one out. For the rest of us, there is the unrated DVD w/ 30 extra minutes (which according to the Z man himself was mostly hacked to get the R rating) to look forward to (coming out this October, from what I heard), & the anticpation of part 2 which can't start shooting soon enough. Sooo in closing, stick to to watered-down, PG-13 kiddie fare Mr. wolf, & leave the gore to us!!!
