Movie Reviews of House, M.D.: Season OneMovie Review: Refreshingly Witty and Clever New Series Summary: 5 Stars
Get ready to finally see a witty and cleverly funny new show that will keep you running in front of the television every tuesday evening (that is if fox decides to keep it on tuesdays). House, M.D.'s flare makes up for all all the dramas that fox should have and its suspense can sometimes even be 24-worthy (another great must see fox drama). A show based on the "strange cases" department in a hospital, which Doctor Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) leads along with his various "sidekick doctors." With great characters such as House who keeps you silently howling with laughter at his various victims of sarcasm and Doctor Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) who always keeps House in check during his many life saving escapades, House M.D. always has something new to offer every week. Refreshingly cute, clever, and perpetually gorgeous Doctor Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) always has something to add as the only female in House's team along with Doctors Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) and Robert Chase (Jesse Spence) the male members of House's team always getting nabbed at with rude but halarious remarks from House. All in all this show is a fanatastic combination of poor kids almost dying, love stories/non-verbal chemistry, children watching the parents go mad with various diseases, lacross players, poisoned jeans, nuns, and who could forget the sarcasm, and I and many others will eagerly await season two and beyond.
Movie Review: I shouldn't like it, but I do! Summary: 5 Stars
When House first came on TV I absolutely refused to watch it since I hate medical dramas. In my opinion ER was terrible, so if I hated that, why should I watch House?
My friend who had watched the show many times before me managed to glue me down on the couch and make me watch one episode. And from that moment on I was hooked.
It's a complete mystery to me. Why should I like this show if I hate medical dramas? I don't know. But this show is absolutely amazing. Even if you're not a fan of medical dramas, you will love this show (like me).
House combines star Hugh Laurie (who is absolutely perfect for the role of House, by the way) with very serious drama and very funny comedy. It's like one of those weird movies that have you one minute you're crying and the other minute laughing.
The result is a creative fusion of GOLD!!
Late 2004/Early 2005 was an unbelievable season for FOX between House, Hell's Kitchen, the new Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad...but House just may be the best of them all, and I can't believe I'm saying that because its coming from the mouth of a person who hates medical dramas, and someone who is a die-hard fan of the Simpsons.
FOX has created a masterpiece that will be remembered and viewed many times throughout the ages. Well, at least by me.
And hopefully by you too.
Movie Review: Hugh's Your Daddy Summary: 5 Stars
Having been bombarded with "reality" TV shows and witless sit-coms for the past two years, I had almost lost faith in nearly all of the networks to bring a smart, well-rounded drama to the air. I didn't start watching "House" until the season was nearly over. After two episodes, I was hooked. Thankfully, I had a friend with TiVo who records and keeps just about everything.
Hugh Laurie is a brilliant man that I've never heard of until about two months ago. Cast as the snarky star of "House", Laurie gave me the miracle I needed to turn on the tube again. He's sexy in a non-Hollywood way, and so interesting. Viewers 'round the world lean forward on their couches in rapt fascination just to see what they guy will say next. He's a dynamic character with an interesting past, but what's most interesting is what we have not yet learned about him.
The supporting cast is perfect, from the timid Dr. Cameron and the midly clever Dr. Chase, and Omar Epps as Dr. Foreman make up the perfect ying to Dr. House's yang.
The plotlines are believable, even if medical professionals tell us otherwise. The sets are a welcome change of pace, since most medical shows take place in run-down hospitals. The CSI-like adventures through the human body make us all feel like we went to med school.
It doesn't get much better than this, folks...
Movie Review: What Can You Say About House? Summary: 5 Stars
What can you say about Dr. Greggory House? He's cranky, abusive, addicted to pain killers, loathes himself almost as much as others, has only one real friend and yet YOU CAN'T HELP LIKING THE GUY!
"House" is a brilliant show for so many reasons: First and foremost, the main character says things to people that we all WISH we could get away with saying on the job! He's not mean spirited intentionally just brutally honest. He's the antithisis of political correctness which makes him the perfect anti-hero for today's veiwers who are fed up with diversity training in the workplace and the burden of having to walk on eggshells not to offend anyone!
The acting is supurb, most especially Hugh Laurie who amazingly is British but I'll be damned if you'd know it from watch the show! The guy can even drop his accent and add the congestion and torment of a cold to his voice! You may not always appreciate what he says but I defy you to ignore him and that's what makes the show so absorbing! The plots are top notch, intelligent and just quirky enough to be engrossing without "jumping the shark" into blood and guts or soap opera!
If you can't tell already, I would urge anyone who hasn't seen this show or who is a fan but doesn't own them yet to RUN not walk or limp to the nearest computer or video store and purchase "House"! YOU WON'T BE SORRY!
Movie Review: House Rules Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw House because I've been a fan of Hugh Laurie since "Blackadder" and "A Bit of Fry and Laurie", and I wanted to see how he'd do in a role that's obviously so far from the characters that made him famous (in Britain at least). I must admit that I had not the slightest inkling of a fraction of an idea, that "House, M.D" would turn out to be this brilliant.
Because that is what it is: Brilliant. Laurie plays the calculating, narcissistic, and effulgent dr. Gregory House to perfection. It is however not a one-man show and Laurie's co-stars all do a very good job playing his subordinates, friend(s), and colleagues, but especially Lisa Edelstein as House's boss Lisa Cuddy is worth of much applause.
The stories are interesting and fascinating, very well written, and well played. There's just enough medical jargon to make it seem expertly confusing and realistic, yet not boring the viewer to tears. The same goes for the humour and the quick witted banter that makes out most of the dialogue. It's humorous but not comedic, it's quick but not 'this was obviously written to show how fast and witty these people are'.
It is probably the best TV series for 10 or 15 years, and I honestly think it's going to be a while before anything better comes along. It is, in a word, good.
