Movie Reviews of Hot Rod [HD DVD]Movie Review: excellent comedy for years to come Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, Hot Rod is an excellent comedy with a very good soundtrack that fits the star role "Rod" perfectly. And secondly, the Hd Dvd transfer is excellent as well. The sound is dynamic, and the picture is crystal clear to give it that theatre movie experience. So if you have an Hd DVD player, I would choose the HD version of this film. (which I cannot say it's true for all Hd DVD titles).
This movie has a series of events that just left me wanting more. It is one of those movies that you are sadenned because it ended. I want more! Rod is an extremely likeable character, along with the rest of his "crew". This movie flows along nicely, and does not spend too much time on any one scene, where some movies these days are guilty for this, resulting in long boring drawn out scenes, which impact the flow of a movie. Hot Rod does NOT do this, which is probably the reason why I did not want this movie to end. I always looked forward to see the next scene, with full anticipation that I would laugh, or feel something, and most scenes did fill my expectations.
This movie also contains my favorite sequence that I have ever seen on film. It is the "soon to be famous" RIOT scene. Words cannot describe the emotion you will feel. Your emotions are torn between hard laughing, and feeling inspired. This is a good feeling to feel while watching a movie. Trust me. It's the best scene ever documented in film history.
Also check out Superbad, and Knocked up. Some of the same people that worked on these films, also worked on Hot Rod.
We are seeing a new refreshing style of comedy, which is really a sight for soar eyes. In todays world, we need comedies like this to give us hope, and Hot Rod and the other 2 films I just mentioned are the best comedies to arise in a very very very long time, and re-inspire us to have fun and enjoy life.
Summary of Hot Rod [HD DVD]Amateur stuntman Rod Kimble (ANDY SAMBERG) has a problem ? his step-father Frank (IAN MCSHANE) is a jerk. Frank picks on Rod, tosses him around like a rag doll in their weekly sparring sessions, and definitely doesn't respect him, much less his stunts. But when Frank falls ill, it's up to Rod to stage the jump of his life in order to save his step-father. The plan: Jump 15 buses, raise the money for Frank's heart operation, and then... kick his ass.
