Movie Review: All Children Grow Up...All of Them. - A Review by Tinkerbell III
Summary: 2 Stars

When I was young, I loved watching this film. I just thought it was so exciting, a foreshadowing to my later Pan-fan years. But now, "Hook" is a strange film to me - it is really awkward to watch, because in one way it follows closely the original novel, while in other ways it completely throws "Peter Pan and Wendy" out the window. Why would anyone make Peter Pan grow up, only to become an annoying business man? And why on earth was he played by ROBIN WILLIAMS?!?!
Seriously, the segments of Peter and Wendy's backstory, the island of Neverland, and the Lost Boys' imaginary meal were all very well done, but you have Peter's grown up shadow hanging over everything. This really affects the storyline for me. This movie would have been so much better if it was just an adaptation of Peter Pan.
The film starts out where Peter 'Banning' and his wife Moira are watching their daughter play Wendy in a school version of Peter Pan. The adult Peter has a tight business schedule, so for the first part of the film he basically ignores his family, missing out on his daughter's plays and skipping his son's baseball games. He has no idea he was once the marvelous boy Peter Pan, who, upon returning to England, met Wendy's descendant Moira and fell in love with her. When the family goes to visit Grandmother Wendy Darling, Wendy reminds him of who he really is. Peter thinks she is just going crazy, but then strange things begin to happen - when Peter wakes up, his children are gone without a trace. Peter is soon informed by the adult Tinker Bell that Hook has kidnapped them and that he must return to Neverland, so he hesitantly agrees. When there, the bored Captain Hook challenges Peter - if he cannot save his children within three days, they are Hook's to command. Peter then embarks on a quest to remember his childhood, learn to fly, and regain leadership of the Lost Boys, now captained by a boy named Rufio, a mirror of his younger self.
I do like certain parts of the film - I loved when Peter returned to the home underground and everything came back to his memory in a rush. I also liked Dustin Hoffman as Hook, he was excellent - scary but still a little romantic and soft-hearted. He also takes his abuse to a more intelligent psychological level, after stealing Pan's children, Jack and Maggie, and reminding them how opressed they are by adults. He then goes on to pit the brainwashed children against their father. As for Mr. Smee, I was amused when he tried to escape with all the bags of gold (Bob Hoskins played the part well).
But because Peter Pan is grown up, this movie is only okay, and only during the most Barrie-esque scenes. I wouldn't recommend it - after all, you might be convinced it is okay to grow up....

Movie Review: Hook
Summary: 5 Stars

A favorite of the family for many years. Robin Williams and Peter Pan, what could be better?

Movie Review: Timeless
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't understand why people dislike this movie so much. The story, in combination with the incredible score, make this a very touching movie. It is well-acted (minus Julia Roberts), and has a unique take on an old story. Who said this had to remain 100% true to the original story of Peter Pan? That gets boring. A class film that will remain one of my favorites

Movie Review: This movie is why Fairy tales should not be revisited
Summary: 1 Stars

Fairy tales are written the way that they are written for a reason. And when greedy producers and actors and directors realize this maybe the world will be a better place. The characters in Fairy Tales aren't suppose to grow up. They are written for certain age groups and are moral lessons about concequences in life and how she/he's life will change depending on which choices that one will make and direction she/he follows.

Movie Review: The best thing to happen to Pan since flying
Summary: 5 Stars

Hook is such a great movie. It also stays true with the originality of Pan.
-Clapping to bring Tinkerbell back to life
-The Lost Boys (the twins)
-Wendy wanting the "night lights" to protect the children
-The crocodile, and many more...
This was such a great concept to bring the modern audience and expose children to the idea of Peter Pan and his story. The acting here is great and the entire film is a great experience. It's good to know what happened when Peter grew up.
