Movie Reviews of Hook

Movie Review: Hook, Hook Where's The Hook?
Summary: 5 Stars

Robin Williams, Bob Hoskins, Julia Roberts & Dustin Hoffman make up the best starting line up for a movie ever. The story is based around Peter Panning (Williams) Name sound familiar? well it is Peter Pan only 40 years old. Peter left Neverland and forgot who he was and eventually began to age and forgot about his childhood. Work becomes Peter's first priority over his marriage and his family which isn't a good thing. Determined to make Peter remember who he is Tinkerbell (Roberts) comes to collect Peter and remind him of who he truly is.
Once in neverland we are first introduced to the scary and imposing figure that is Captain James Hook (Hoffman) and his trusty sidekick Smee (Hoskins). As the story progresses of Peter being brough back to neverland we see the painful task of reminding Peter who he is so he can go into one final battle with Captain Hook. Apart from Hook, Peter has one adversary to overcome first and that's Rufio (Dante Basco) the new leader of the Lost Boys since Peter's absence.
Because of Peter's neglegance of his children his son Jack is easily persuaded to join Captain Hook along with his little sister and this is a true low blow for Peter.
I have already said too much but all's i'm going to say is you'll love this film as much as i did. Very heartwarming, funny and just a plain nice film that is for the entire family.

Movie Review: "You Know That Place Between Asleep and Awake, That Place Where You Still Remember Dreaming."
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I watched this movie I wasn't too impressed. Looking back I'd have to say this negative first impression was totally my fault and not the films. I guess it just didn't fit my preconceived notion of what Neverland should be like and simply didn't give the movie a chance to pull me into its wonderfully imaginary landscape of people and places. Fortunately my daughter loved it and forced me to watch it with her over and over and over again. Once I learned to let myself go and become a child (which is what this film is about in the first place), I fell in love with it!

While some Amazon reviewers have questioned the choice of Robin Williams for the lead role of Peter Panning, I found him to be absolutely perfect in the part of the middle-aged workalcoholic who had forgotten all about his childhood adventures as the legendary Peter Pan. Then of course you have stellar performances by the rest of the all-star cast: Dustin Hoffman (Captain Hook), Bob Hoskins (Smead), Julia Roberts (Tinkerbell) and Maggie Smith (Granny Wendy). Lesser known, but three of my personal favorites in the movie were: Caroline Goodall (Moira Panning), Dante Basco (Rufio) and Amber Scott (Maggie Panning).

Become A Child Again! It Will Be An Awfully Big Adventure!

Movie Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the ironic points in the movie whereby Peter Pan has become his feared nemesis. A pirate who overwhelms weak businesses. A grownup with absolutely no sense of humor.

I can feel for him, having long left childhood behind, and this movie reminds me to take those times with the not-so-lost children in my life (my kids) to giggle and be silly, rather than rule-mongering all the time so to keep order.

I enjoy Hook's reaction to seeing Peter for the first time - all bloated and fearful. And then 3 days hence - his response to seeing him again. Beautiful.

And I love when Peter refers to Hook as "Old man" only to have Hook use that name on him later on during the fight because then you realize it - both of them are "old men" from the perspective of the lost boys and Peter's kids.

The only thing I didn't like was Julie Roberts as Tink. I don't particularly like her acting style and she came across as VERY flat in this movie. Her odd attempt at 'romancing' him when he had forgotten who he was disturbing on a few levels... 1) His kids would die if he didn't go save them 2) His personality had reverted to that of a child.

Movie Review: Entertaining, Magical and Touching...
Summary: 5 Stars

Spielberg has managed to create a wonderful film here, despite what the critics say. It's true you need to be a kid at heart to love it... but once you're into it you'll be amazed at what you find.

A brilliant set makes for a real dreamworld in Never-Neverland, the star-studded cast makes for a very lively and utterly delightful performance while the film still also contains some meaningful moments. A terrific balance.

CRITICS!

Often reviews seem to find great fault with this film while acknowledging there's something there - but what do they say is wrong?

The Never-kids apparently don't fit! Well see it for yourself, I'd like to know what they should look like?

Changing the story to some is unforgivable! There are alot of films where they change things or write a later on version (as Hook is to Peter Pan) and they are awful - total cringe films. The twist in Hook I very much appreciate however and I think it credits the original.

The acting is too plainand unlively! No way. I think here we come back to the type of film - it's a kid's movie! So change, and become like a child, then watch it... I'm sure you'll love it!
