Home of the Brave is a VHS documentary scrutinizing the case of Viola Liuzzo, the only white woman murdered in the Civil Rights Movement. A 39-year-old mother of five from Detriot who joined the historic Voting Rights March in 1965, she was shot in the head shortly after the march ended by a car of Klansmen, while driving on a deserted highway. J. Edgar Hoover immediately responded with a vicious smear campaign to distract attention from the fact that a key FBI informant was in the car with Liuzzo's killers. Home of the Brave tells Liuzzo's tale through the eyes of her children, and strives to restore the credit due to her for her role in history and her personal sacrifice. Highly recommended especially for public, college, and high school library collections. 75 minutes.
