Movie Reviews of Hitch (Widescreen Edition)

Movie Review: Life is the moments that take your breath away
Summary: 5 Stars

"You is a very fluid concept right now", states "Hitch", a dating consultant, who calls himself the "dating doctor". Will Smith plays the lead in a role designed for him. The premise is as follows; "Hitch" is a dating consultant whose business is helping men sweep women off their feet. He helps a variety of guys meet the love of their life by setting up circumstances to help get them noticed and on dates, and the rest is up to them. The results are often hilarious. One day "Hitch" meets a woman who sweeps him off his feet, and then his well designed strategies for others fail in some of the most memorable ways.

While the movie is funny, and Will Smith is his typical self, this one has some real relationship depth to it. The characters likable, and the courtships and dating are at times awkwardly realistic. I think every man who watches the movie can relate to many of the awkward moments and cringe and laugh along.

Of course the ending is a bit too easy, but still, it works. This movie is not a masterpiece by any means, but it is enjoyable from the opening credits to the end. In this day and age where most comedies have to resort to crass and offensive humor, this one is a gem. Enjoy.

Movie Review: "And then the q-tip...and then you throw it away..."
Summary: 5 Stars

Before you even see "Hitch", it's tempting to write the movie off as harmless fluff-a Will Smith star vehicle at best. Just look at the cheesy Hollywood styling of the poster: Smith leaning on the word "Hitch" with an I'm-so-smooth grin, daring your expectations to be anything above waist-level. Will Smith as the Date Doctor, selling his charm to nobodies-makes you want to rent Meet the Fockers again, doesn't it? Fact is, "Hitch" does exactly what 90 percent of romantic comedies fail to do: sell you on its charm. The writing abounds with cleverness and laugh-out-loud moments. Urbane matchmaker Hitch has truer things to say about women and dating than Mel Gibson could learn through telepathy in "What Women Want." Finally, Smith gets a role where his mastery of gesture matches smart dialog line for line. And true to Hitch's belief in non-verbal communication, the movie boasts some great physical comedy. Once you've seen nebbish accountant Albert cut loose on the dance floor, you'll know what I mean. Dare yourself to give this movie a chance. It's hilarious and true, the best Hollywood surprise to come along in years.

Movie Review: Hitch A Ride On This Love Story
Summary: 5 Stars

If you look at any of my other reviews, you'll see that I'm no "love story, chick flick wus." So there's my disclaimer. And there's your disclaimer. You can say: "some guy [(me)] on Amazon said, 'buy this flick; it's cool; it's not a chick flick; it's awesome entertainment for us macho, cool dudes.'"

Hitch is better than a lot of the "trying-to-be-macho-but-really-a-chick-flick" films that I've rented or purchased in the past several years.

Funny. Serious. Amusing. Witty. And, hey, I think I'll try some of the pick-up lines that Will Smith executes so flawlessly in this movie. HEY! OUCH! (That was my wife smacking me upside the head.)

Overview: Will Smith teaches guys "that need help" how to get the girl of their dreams. Will finds his own "challenge", and the comedy of Will and his protégé acquiring their respective women makes for an awesomely realistic, modern day (macho!) love story.

This flick is a keeper. Do you like movies in the vein of "Shallow Hal"? Then this is a movie for you.

Hit the Add To Cart Button...if you're macho.

Movie Review: The Film Goes Off Without A Hitch!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Simpering with delight! That is exactly how you will be behaving after you have watched this film! Will Smith`s mellow, optimistic presence makes this movie enjoyable - and that`s good news for a couplet in the infatuation phase. Podgy accountant Kevin James, receives love lessons from a unusually sophisticated Smith who would relish a go-steady relationship with Eva Mendes. All very fascinating, but the irony of it is that Smith`s love life is similarly made into a muddle. But this makes it all the more amusing that advice is emitted from one whose love-life remains mirred in failure. While literature-attache` Mendes has Smith in pursuit, James vigorous attempts to impress his dream-woman Hitchens might falter , with a bombardment of macho acts. Then again, it might not! But what all this adds up to is merely a stylish date movie, harnessing both the young and old audiences. Smith and James equally share a love-crazed desire, but the rummaging around for clues and lumbering from here to there makes this film a harmless and fun frolic. Recommended for all!

Movie Review: So Original!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just read a review that called this movie unoriginal and I must say I disagree. I thought the concept was fresh and new. It was great to see a movie about dating from a man's point of view (and not the point of view of just hooking up with the girl and ditching her!).

It is a romantic comedy and Will Smitch plays Alex Hitchens, a date doctor. He helps regular guys get girls that wouldn't normally give them a chance. And he does this by showing them how to be attentive to the woman's needs...not by tricking them or playing them. He gets his most difficult job ever when Albert (Kevin James) wants a supermodel! Hilarity ensues and James makes a GREAT supporting actor in the movie.

Of couse there is the story of Hitch's love life and his inability and lack of desire to have a relationship. That might be the weakest part of this movie, but definitely not a reason to skip it. I loved Will Smith in this role.
