Movie Review: A classic of any generation!
Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of my favorites! Bernie Casey delivers one of the few believeable performances of that time as THE brother you didnt want to mess with. He exudes a confidence that comes with having done work on the streets and knows how to handle himself. Tyrone Tackett is a man attempting to deal with the death of his brother who quickly finds out there is foul play involved and will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of it and make those responsible pay. This movie is a great contrast to Shaft because of the west coast style Bernie brings to the role, check out his rap, and when someone gets him pissed he puts out some classic lines "us Tacketts dont like being pushed into the ground" and "I done seen all you heavy LA cats and I AINT IMPRESSED". GET THIS MOVIE and watch Tyrone anger and fury build following the treachery put on his family until it explodes. Trust me the only other real portrayal of this character is by Richard Roundtree in SHAFT, Denzel Washington in TRAINING DAY and Samuel Jackson in SHAFT. These characters are based on real life men who you dont want to get on the wrong side of if your smart (many of these brothers worked and lived in our communitties some as police officers, some like my Dad in the post office. Theso called Blaxploitation genre was built around these characters starting with SweetbackBadass Song and the Shaft movies and quickly fell apart with bad acting, casting and writing.
