The USA flag has a long and storied history, changing and evolving over the past two centuries as new states have been added. The features in this collection come from rare 1930s and 1940s movies, and have wonderful vintage variations of the American national anthem (the lyrics of which were written by Francis Scott Key in 1814) as well as great historical documentation of the American flag. This is a great teaching tool for the classroom. The Star-Spangled Banner videos (of which 2 varieties are given in this DVD) were used for years in American movie theatres to entertain audiences. Patriotic pictures, footage and songs abound in the two historic films. Of all American patriotic songs, the words to the Star Spangled Banner best represent the loyalty and vigor with which the country was founded.TABLE OF CONTENTS: The Star-Spangled Banner (1940) - 2 minutes running time - This is vintage Technicolor footage of the flowing American flag over a rendition of the American national anthem . This is a wonderful piece of American video history that was mostly shown prior to the feature presentation in movie theatres during the WWII era. Movietone News: The Star-Spangled Banner (1942) - 2 minutes running time - This film features terrific editing of transparent American flags backed by military images. These images say a lot about the tense, militant state of mind during this historical period. What an awesome short from the early 1940s! Story of Our Flag (1938) - 10 minutes running time - An excellent classroom movie, which shows a complete history of the United States flag, ranging from the colonial period to the 20th century.
