Movie Reviews of Highlander - Endgame

Movie Review: A DVD Sound-Check review
Summary: 5 Stars

I was finally able to listen to the DVD at appropriate theatrical sound levels (that is -- really, really loud). sound designers, Foley folks and all other sound tekkies really have done a terrific job. After 15 years using my last stereo rig, I finally have a state-of-the-current-art 6 speaker set-up with DVD, CD, MD, major sub-woofer, etc. and a humongous receiver to pump it all out.

One of the major points of DVD technology is the ability to have magnificent sound and Highlander: Endgame takes full advantage of it.

The Quickenings (especially the climactic last one) are incredible -- the lightning and explosions occur all around you -- to the point I found myself whipping my head around to see if the noise I heard behind me was our cats destroying something made of glass!!

Nice job all!!!

Movie Review: A Great Flick Viewed Seperately From The Series
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit, this was the first Highlander I saw, and I thought it was great. After viewing the others, I can see why so many series fans have beef. Essentially, this film tries to clean up all the contradictions and sci fi mumbo jumbo in the other films and concentrate on the characters instead - good move. I would suggest watching this flick and leaving the other films - especially - Highlander II - unwatched.

This film highlites interesting character dynamics, the romantic notions of immortality (sort of like is attempted in many bad vampire movies), and some impressive fight choreography. Also, the soundtrack has a wonderful celtic feel. On the whole, I would suggest watching it for the first time with somebody who can fill you in on the basics of the series, but it is most assuredly a worthwhile effort.

Movie Review: The Only True Sequel to Highlander
Summary: 5 Stars

Some regard this film as "Highlander...the Apology". If this is the case, then apology accepted. I wasn't sure what to expect with this film, given my reluctance to take Duncan MacLeod or anyone associated with the TV series seriously. I was pleasantly surprised to find this film very well done. The acting, soundtrack, special effects and storyline were all superb.

Even if you refuse to watch any other sequels, give this one a chance. It does an excellent job of passing the torch from Connor to Duncan. After this film, I can even stand watching the show from time to time.

Bottom Line: An excellent film with more character development and emotion than any other Highlander film. Any fans of human history, particularly those who enjoyed the first film, will love this sequel.

Movie Review: a series revival
Summary: 5 Stars

It was good to see that the Highlander series was back on track. After Highlander 2, no one thought they could bring it back. Highlander 3 sorta got noticed but wasn't a great movie, it was more of a remake. But Endgame was brilliant, it has revived the series by setting up another sequel that sould be out in 2005 or 2006. But what's so great about the film you ask? Well the shots and direction were spectacular. The choreographing done by Donnie Yen, who also starred in it, was incredible. And the story for once was original and the acting quite good. Bruce Payne made a great villian and Adrian Paul was a great new lead role for the series.(luckly he will be returning for number 5) I would recomend this film to any fantasy or Highlander fan.

Movie Review: Endgame brings back the spirit of the Original.
Summary: 5 Stars

Ever since The Quickening and Final Dimension, I thought nothing could rival the Original Highlander. I bought the DVD and was prepared for the worst. I was surprised on how good the film actually turned out to be! Endgame answers questions never before asked and sets out a new path of plot for the Highlander series without adding any useless garbage we don't need. Endgame does to Highlander what no one would have ever expected. A must Buy. Watch the opening sequece with Connor and Duncan and you'll see what kind of a movie this is....watch a little bit longer, and you'll experience it at a whole new level. The tragic twist in the climax of the film is unforgettable. "There Can Be Only One".
