Movie Review: a very interesting edge case ... and some more insight
Summary: 4 Stars
The basic premise of the movie is simple: three immortals get killed (they are dead), but their heads are intact, because they get trapped in ice. Please note this is consistent with the basic canon of the immortals: if you shoot one of them, they are dead for a while.
(Another edge case to explore: what happens when you chop off the head when the person is dead?)
I must admit I never liked the "prize" of the first movie: you are immortal until you are the only one, then you can die. It seems like a real waste.
Also, left unanswered by the first movie is the question of exactly what do you get as a part of the quickening? One would assume powers, skills, and knowledge. For example, immortal A kills immortal B. B has a fortune. A should now have access to it.
This movie answers some of these questions. The bad guy gets the powers of the sorcerer - he can shape-shift. These powers make it harder for MacLeod to find and battle Kane. However, MacLeod is able to draw on powers that he has gained from other quickenings.
In short, the movie is consistent, and follows from a case where MacLeod is the last immortal, then three more come to life. I thought this was very clever and well done.
I also liked the bad guys. Kane is ruthless. His first act when revived is to kill one of the other bad guys. How bad can you get? I guess he needed a quickening to get started in the morning :^)
In some ways the plot is predictable. Kane kidnaps someone close to MacLeod to force him into a fight. Was I surprised? No. Does it hurt the movie? No. I do wish the director had come up with a better reason for MacLeod to go after Kane, because MacLeod would have to do battle with a newly revived immortal - after all (voice effect) "There can be only One!".
I recommend this movie. Highlander fans should find it consistent with the other movies (well .. leaving H2 aside), and an interesting twist on the weird conditions of being immortal.
(Full disclosure: I was an unpaid extra on H2, and a good friend built many of the models. But - H2 was in left field, to be kind.)

The third Highlander movie takes place at 1994, which means it's a prequel of the second film. After the death of his beloved wife Heather some centuries ago, Connor MacLeod left the highlands of Scotland and wandered around the world. Finally, he got to Japan, where he met the famous sorcerer Nakano, who was an Immortal too. Soon, they became friends, and Nakano taught Conor some tricks. But one day, an old enemy, Kane, came to Japan willing to find Nakano's cave and kill him. Although he succeeded, after cutting Nakano's head the mountain collapsed and Kane was trapped.
