Movie Reviews of High SpiritsMovie Review: Peter Plunkett's Irish castle turned hotel Summary: 5 Stars
When Peter Plunkett's Irish castle turned hotel is about to be repossesed, he decides to spice up the attraction a bit for the 'Yanks' by having his staff pretend to haunt the castle. The trouble begins when a busload of American tourists arrive - along with some real ghosts. Among the tourists are married couple Jack and Sharon. Sharon's father holds the mortgage on Castle Plunkett, so she's hoping to debunk the ghosts. Jack, on the other hand, after meeting pretty ghost Mary, is very eager to believe. Can there be love between a human and ghost? Jack and Mary are going to try and find out. A great comedy!
Movie Review: Comic Relief for our stressful world Summary: 5 Stars
High Spirits was and still is one of my favorite movies, because of the simplistic plot and the perfect casting of the characters. Everyone fit his role and everyone brought a special quality to the movie. It is not a epic movie or thought provoking, it is just a fun romp through an implausible set of events and how they all tied together for a laugh. Peter O'Toole is one of my favorite actors and to see him bumble his way through this movie was a treat. It is about ghost, but not scary, it is about relationships, but not deep and disturbing, it is about fun. Watching it lifts my SPIRITS!
Movie Review: Great film - shame about the music! Summary: 5 Stars
Having originally watched and recorded High Spirits on satellite tv ssome years ago, my tape was beginning to wear out, so I eagerly awaited the DVD. The film is still great, with excellent roles played by stars such as Liz Smith and Peter O'Toole. The only thing is that on the DVD the music is too loud for the rest of the film. I wonder if that was the same on the video release. Did the now defuncted British Satellite Broadcasting modify the film in some way? Who knows. As long as you have your remote control with you, it is still fantastic!
Movie Review: Fun for the family Summary: 5 Stars
High Spirits is about a man named Peter Plunkett whose castle in Ireland is haunted by ghosts again. He decides to have the staff pretend they are ghosts to scare some tourists. Among the tour guides are a couple named Jack and Sharon Crawford who are having problems in their relationship. It isnt until Jack meets the beautiful ghost, Mary, when he realizes his love for another person, well ghost that is! Very funny, exciting, and just pure fun!
Movie Review: High Spirits, just plain fun Summary: 5 Stars
High Spirits has been one of my favorite VHS movies since it came out on tape ouch years ago. When I first saw this movies. The cast is perfect and Peter O'Toole is at his best.
The conversion to DVD is done very well. As with most of the older movies there are practically no extra features other than the Trailers/Teasers.
Good movie, should be OK for all ages.
