Movie Review: HSM2: Even better than the first! Summary: 5 StarsHow often can that be said about any movie? HSM truly deserves to be a sign of my daughter's times. Great music and dancing, adequate storyline, and memorable characters.
Movie Review: Great Clean Fun! Summary: 5 StarsI really, really, really, liked "High School Musical 2." Heck, I loved it! With so much cynical material out there featuring self-destructive, anti-social, youth-deprived teens on the screen, it is so nice to see our future generation enjoying the simple (and complicated) joys of once-in-a-lifetime youth: summer break, first jobs, puppy love, peer bonding, peer pressure, and the wonderful theme of 'to thine own self be true.'
The gang all get jobs at a fabulous desert country club owned by Sharpay's parents, masterminded by Sharpay (deliciously, naughty, ditsy Ashley Tisdale) who bumbly tries to snatch heart-throb Troy (terrifically likable teen idol Zac Efron) from the sensible and raven-haired lifeguard beauty Gabriella (the stunning and lovable Vanessa Anne Hudgens).
It's all your standard boy-meets-girl-boy-looses-girl-and-soul-boy-gains- girl-and-soul fare, but it is so adorably infectious that you are either laughing or smiling or dancing in the aisle, or all three at the same time throughout.
Other standout performance in a show where even the extras are standouts are Corbin Bleu as Chad, Troy's curly-headed ace boon and voice of reason and conscious, and the transformative Lucas Gabreel, Sharpay's nerdy brother Ryan who turns into a total triumph.
The dancing is stunning, the colors are vibrant, the meassages are clear and simple, the songs are terrific and terrifically performed.
A special note should be given to Zac Efron's introspective, inner-turmoil performnace of "Bet On It." It's nearly as visually and vocally as good as anything from Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
Now, none of this happens by itself, so let me take my hat off to a true master, director and choreogrpaher Tony Ortega. Great job, Mr. Ortega. Can't wait till High School Musical 3!Looker: A Novel
Movie Review: Not as good as the first one Summary: 3 StarsMy niece said it was a good movie. But she also said it was not as good as the first one.
Movie Review: High School Musical 2 (Extended Edition) Summary: 5 StarsMy granddaughters saw this on TV and learned all the music and words to the musical. I had to get it for them. They watch it all the time. It's nice clean fun!
